21.01.2022 The McGowan Government is implementing the most comprehensive law reform than ever before in WA. This is important reform which will make women safe.

20.01.2022 Women deserve equality in all aspects of life in schools, at work, in their homes and out in the community. And yet statistics consistently show that WA women... are being overlooked for leadership opportunities and face considerable risk of violence and abuse. We need to harness the talent and potential of every member of our community. Without action on this issue, Western Australia risks being left behind. That’s why I am so proud to launch WA’s first long-term strategy to achieve gender equality in Western Australia today. The McGowan Government recognises that a society where everyone is empowered and supported to participate is not just the right thing to do it also makes good business and economic sense. Stronger Together: WA’s Plan for Gender Equality provides a roadmap for industries, communities and individuals to drive change. And the State Government will lead by example with these initiatives: A target of 50 per cent women in top-level (Senior Executive Services) public service positions Trialling public sector reporting to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency; and A commitment to examine opportunities to use procurement to support gender equality policy and practice. It is everyone’s responsibility to help build a stronger, more equitable future for our State.

20.01.2022 I am delighted to formally announce my upcoming book with co-author Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Penguin Books Australia: Women and Leadership. Almost every year new... findings are published about the way people see women leaders compared with their male counterparts. We have taken that academic work and tested it in the real world. The same set of interview questions were put to each leader in frank face-to-face interviews. Their responses were then used to examine each woman’s journey in leadership and whether their lived experiences were in line with or different from what the research would predict. Women and Leadership presents a lively and readable analysis of the influence of gender on women’s access to positions of leadership, the perceptions of them as leaders, the trajectory of their leadership and the circumstances in which it comes to an end. By presenting the lessons that can be learned from women leaders, we provide a road map of essential knowledge to inspire us all, and an action agenda for change that allows women to take control and combat gender bias. Featuring Jacinda Ardern, Hillary Clinton, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Theresa May, Michelle Bachelet, Joyce Banda, Erna Solberg, and Christine Lagarde . https://www.penguin.com.au//women-and-leadership-978014379

12.01.2022 Today is International Women’s Day. This year, the theme of International Women’s Day is Each for Equal. It’s a chance for all of us to think about what we can... do to contribute to a more equal society for women. At WA Labor, these are just three things we are doing to play our part for equality: - We set targets in our party rules to get more women into Parliament and they work. In 2017, we elected a historic number of women in Parliament. We’ve just added some more women to our team for 2021 and we’re excited to help them get elected, too. - The Mark McGowan Labor Government have just released their ‘Stronger Together: WA’s Plan for Gender Equality’. This is the first plan of its kind a real commitment to gender equality in our State. A great Labor achievement. - We’re working to grow our women’s membership through our campaign, Towards Fifty, which aims to bring more women into our great Party and give them the support they need to succeed.

07.01.2022 Better understanding how gendered media coverage distorts our view of women leaders is pivotal to fixing the problem and encouraging more women to pursue a care...er in politics. Thanks Blair for your excellent research contribution. https://www.anu.edu.au//media-obsession-with-female-pms%E2 See more
