25.01.2022 BOAT NAVIGATION TIPS Heading upstream means in a direction away from the sea. Think about it in terms of you are going up to a higher elevation of where the estuary starts. Heading downstream means in a direction towards the sea. Think about as if you are going back down to sea level.... Another way to remember which side of the markers to stay is thinking about your own boat lights or side of your boat. Red is your port or left side; and Green is your starboard or right side. Your GREEN TO RED - seas ahead; and Your GREEN TO GREEN - heading upstream
