23.01.2022 Sweet squeaky ,premmie boy, just had him fall in front of me - unfortunately while bats were panicking during council fogging and noise banging for the morning. We will wait and see if he gets through next 48 hrs ? ( don't worry he was tucked straight down the t-shirt to warm up after he took the teat!) ... Our new go fund me for the new orphan season will be up and running soon..... please help share when you can :)))))

22.01.2022 Aaaah baby season, never wear your Sunday best and make sure you have the time, to make the time, give them warmth, affection, playfulness and all the loving they can take, it will be returned tenfold!

21.01.2022 PLEASE REMIND FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO " LOOK UP" AND CHECK BATS ON POWER LINES.... At this time of year Mother Flying Foxes are carrying little Babies while they fly looking for food at night. Mothers carry babies under 100g , while they fly . The babies are tightly hanging from the teat ,under the wing in the mums armpit. Bats unfortunately get tired and rest on Power Lines. This would be fine ,if like birds , they sat on just one.... If the bats clip another line as they fly in, they get Electrocuted . Mothers die straight away. BUT the electricity tends to go straight through them along the midline and misses the babies that are hanging on the side attached to the teat. This means....... babies Do Not die instantly with mum! They can cling on and call and last a few days on mum. The other thing to remember is Bats , at rest or dead - their feet are clenched. Opposite to alot of other animals. So it takes muscles to un- clench from a branch or power line. That's why when they die instantly , they will still hang on the lines and not drop straight away. So........ LOOK UP !!!!!! If you see a bat dead on Power lines ,double check if you see or hear a bub still hanging there.???? Call The local wildlife or Report to Ergon or Electric Company as it is their duty to keep the power lines free and there are some vaccinated workers who will get dead mum's down safely with bub attached for us to rescue. 18.01.2022 The little girl found on the ground under the creche tree is growing well, she loves her food and attention and knows when I put the Bat roll in front of her, it’s feed/water time and chirps her way onto it. I’m not naming her till she gets past the 1 month mark, just incase, as I found excessive bruising inside her wings which may be related to her mother being electrocuted so she is still under my watchful eye!

13.01.2022 .. Had to do double feeds this morning for the girls. They are so awesome ( fed together - double, Not double milk :))

13.01.2022 Tim, so tiny compared to our other growing kids. He’s feeding beautifully, sleeps a lot of course but loves his cuddles and hanging time.

10.01.2022 Adult Male FF have scent glands ,where the neck meets the shoulders. They love to mark their territory and scent especially during mating times. ( This is often the odour, the public complain about close to colonies- not urine or faeces. As it can be very strong and unpleasant to some!) Male FF's groom this neck area Regularly with their thumbs and feet and can often be seen having a good scratch on a branch. Adult Males in Care .....like ELVIS here, sometimes love a... little help with this ,if they have an injury that makes it difficult to do this grooming in recovery. ELVIS flew into a building and is taking a few weeks to recover. Part of our daily ritual is a wet towel wash at night and then a good scratch around the scent glands. He comes alive after this ,eats well and is moving better and better each night!:)) Cj

07.01.2022 Thought she was a gonna till I touched her! She’s a fighter at 39grams! UPDATE: baby girl passed away this morning, we will never know what was underlying but we acknowledge that a lot of the time, mothers sense things we cannot comprehend.

07.01.2022 Found this little man last night hanging onto dead wood, his umbilical cord wrapped around it. He’s made it through the night with hydration and a good bathing, had his first feed today and holding great promise! Name suggestions from our following Bat lovers would be great! So the baby Black season has well and truly started and we are desperate for funds, literally $1 from each or even half of our followers, will keep our babies vet checked, fed, warm and strong for a future of living wild and free! https://gf.me/u/y2ih56

07.01.2022 A very thirsty BUNGEE. - baby flying foxes still need hydroation between milk Feeds ( especially in North Queensland ,it's so hot!) MILK Is FOOD... WATER/VYTRATE is HYDRATION. We usually try and fit in hydration between feeds. Which is again time consuming as babies like BUNGEE have 5 feeds a day Approx 4 hours apart. ( for example 6am/10am/ 2pm/ 6pm /11pm) We would try and fit in water half way between, a couple times a day -- Say maybe 12pm and 4pm. See more

04.01.2022 GRANDMA'S first night in her outdoor cage( right outside my bedroom door!) She had a good night ,and its a beautiful cool morning. She's even got an early morning visitor . Mother Rock Wallabies - that get a treat in the mornings.They are quite curious at this sight of a big grandma.

03.01.2022 It is possible We see two different views on the warm blooded mammals here ? I see a precious innocent life , a 2wk old boy whose mother even with a broken back did her best to keep him safe and now this little life is totally dependent on me . - in return I feel almost more love and trust from him then I ever have had from a human. You may see the beginning of a flying nuisance that simply the noise or smell of irritates you. Maybe that park in the middle of your city - ye...s the one you only drive by or by chance once a year maybe walk through, how dare these blooded beings roost there! Oh but don't worry about those wonderful tropical fruits you feast on and gush about to southern visitors, those smelly noisy bats were most likely responsible for dispersing. Before you believe the extreme blown out rubbish of some news portals , try being informed the truth and then your opinion matters whatever way! The loudest rubbish spewing, local spokespersons for the small towns have zero clue about conservation and the overwhelming stupidity of their -" we don't understand them so we should kill them" attitude is so out of date !
