20.01.2022 On 9 August we commemorate the life of Mary Sumner (31 December 182811 August 1921) who was the founder of the Mothers Union, a worldwide Anglican womens organisation. MU has always been strong in the Diocese with interesting projects and topics discussed. See the interesting topics discussed at the Centenary Conference in London (1976), attended by 15 North Queensland reps. Although St James does not have a Mothers Union group at present, pre-COVID, several parishioners were helping with the MU Morning Tea at the Family Court. This was an opportunity to support those who were waiting for their cases to be heard.

17.01.2022 July 12th Sea Sunday. The Cathedrals Mission to Seafarers 90th anniversary window shows Mary holding a ship within a globe, symbolising the world around which the seafarers journey. From the base of the globe flows the water, falling in a decorative pattern on Marys girdle to the logo of the Mission to Seafarers, linking the ship to the worldwide seafaring society. The lower panel displays the logo of the MtS supported by nautical symbols; while below is a depiction of Castle Hill from Cleveland Bay, with modern day shipping on the waters in the Port of Townsville.
16.01.2022 November 1st -All Saints Day Dear Lord, we thank you for the saints of the church and their example to us. Help us to be more like them in the way that we relate to all those around us. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen
16.01.2022 Good afternoon folks! We celebrate "Sea Sunday" at our services this weekend. For the second week, there is no need to "register" to attend the services, but you will still need to sign in when you arrive, and follow the physical distancing requirements, by sitting in the pews which are labelled for the time of the service you are attending. Copies of this Sundays pew sheet and kids workbook have been uploaded onto the website www.stjamescathedral.com.au... Keep in your prayers tomorrow the members of the Ministry Unit Council which will meet in the morning and the Friends of the Cathedral who will meet in the afternoon. I look forward to seeing you this weekend. See more
16.01.2022 Obituary of Someone Else I know that all of you were saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our churchs most valuable members -- Someone Else. Someones passing created a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years, and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than the normal persons share of the work. Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results. Someone E...lse can work with that group. Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyones lips, "Let Someone Else do it." It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the largest givers in the church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed that Someone Else would make up the difference. Someone Else was a wonderful person, sometimes appearing super-human, but a person can only do so much. Were the truth known, everyone expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone. We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did? Remember, we cant depend on Someone Else anymore. - Author Unknown -

10.01.2022 July 25th- Today we celebrate the life of James, Apostle and Martyr St James the Great is our Patron Saint. Our Cathedral window of St James is from1907 and is dedicated in memory of the late Mr James Gordon, who was actively associated with the early history of Townsville, and especially with the beginning of church work in the city. Our Cathedral bell tower supports a white stone statue of Saint James the Great, (affectionally known as "Slim Jim") which was erected in 1960 on the completion of the Cathedral. The sculptor was Erwin A. Guth who was born in Saarbrucken, Germany in 1926. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Fine arts during the Second World War (1940-42) and was a teacher of sculpture at the Ministry of Public Worship and Instruction of the Saar from 1950-1953 before migrating to Australia in 1954.

04.01.2022 Bishops Charge to Synod, New Churches: page 14 July 1931. The Church of St Marks by the permission of the Rector and Wardens of Charters Towers has just been removed from Sellheim, from whence the population had disappeared, and been re-erected in the grounds of Bishops Lodge. It will serve the needs of the people of Belgian Gardens whose numbers are rapidly increasing and will also be used as our Chapel when there are large parties at the Lodge. I have been hoping for eighteen years to build a Chapel. This one will cost about 130. I have guaranteed the amount. The old Chapel will not hold more than 12 people and the new one has long been greatly needed. It is possible that friends, in various parts, may like to help to pay for it. I expect to have a dedication in August.
04.01.2022 August 24- Today we celebrate the life of Bartholomew, Apostle and Martyr Our Cathedral window of Saint Bartholomew was given by Olive Mitter and Family, Ivy Fraser and Family, Jean Core and Family, Laurel Costello and Family, daughters of Jessie and James Ferguson in memory of William and Mary Hahn and their daughter Louisa and Fred Keppel and their daughter Jessie and James Ferguson... These families were involved in the founding of the Cathedral. William Hann was notable among the first generation of North Queenslanders, and his descendants are still part of the St James congregation See more
