22.01.2022 THAT’S A WRAP! It has been a busy 2 weeks for our Business Development Exec, Mikala. Attending both ATE LIVE and ONLINE gave us the opportunity to meet with 100 key buyers giving them a regional update as well as telling them all that Is new and fabulous in our slice of paradise. This included 57 face to face and 43 online appointments! Port Douglas and the Daintree continues to be an aspirational destination for people looking to travel both domestically and internationa...lly (once they are allowed). Along with this there was a quick dash to Newcastle in between ATE events with 8 other Cairns & Great Barrier Reef operators to attend a regional showcase hosted by Cairns Airport and Newcastle Airport. During the evening we meet with 40 travel agents to promote the destination in time for the direct flights between Cairns and Newcastle starting on the 23rd June. Restrictions will remain on travel from Greater Melbourne for another 7 days, and there is a strong recommendation from the Queensland Government advising those planning travel to Greater Sydney to reconsider.... 19.01.2022 Tourism operators in the Douglas Shire are now poised to weather any storm with the launch of a new hands-on guide designed to build resilience in the sector. Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD) today launched the ‘Douglas Tourism Operators Response and Recovery Project’ today, which features a guide and strategy designed to empower local businesses through disaster events. The initiative follows the launch of the ‘Summer in the Tropics’ campaign with Tourism Tropical North ...Queensland (TTNQ) to stimulate summer travel in coming months. This project was jointly funded under the Commonwealth and Queensland State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements 2018 with the support of Douglas Shire Council. 19.01.2022 It has been a busy couple of days for the Douglas Shire - last night The Hon Warren Entsch MP, Mayor Michael Kerr from Douglas Shire Council, TPDD CEO Tara Bennett and local industry representatives had the opportunity to meet with the federal tourism minister The Hon Dan Tehan MP about the plight of our industry during the pandemic and the needs we have moving forward. Following on from this Tara spent this morning in Cairns attending round table discussions and a luncheon ...with the minister and industry making sure the Douglas Shires voice was heard. 14.01.2022 DAINTREE FERRY SURVEY RESULTS Douglas Shire Council have announced that the Daintree Ferry results favour a two-way ferry crossing over a bridge at the Daintree River. The results revealed that the majority of those who completed the Daintree River Crossing Survey preferred a two-ferry service with 66% of the votes, compared to 33% of votes favouring a bridge. ... 13.01.2022 Rebates For Daintree Tour Buses And Businesses TOUR buses using the Daintree River Ferry crossing will be eligible for a 50% rebate on their tickets for the rest of the calendar year. Douglas Shire Council endorsed the ferry fee rebate starting on Thursday, October 1, as a COVID-19 relief measure for business owners, and rolled out further measures for businesses operating on the Daintree Coast. ... 12.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS l Off the back of the Victorian Premier announcing a 5-day lock down for the entire state of Victoria, Queensland has declared Greater Melbourne a hotspot and people coming from the affected areas will not be able to cross the Queensland border for 14 days from 1am on Saturday. UPDATE: Anyone who has been to any of the listed venues in Greater Melbourne, please come forward, get tested, follow Victoria's advice to quarantine for 14 days, and call 13 HEALTH.... This includes anyone who arrived in Queensland from Melbourne on Tuesday 9 February and who travelled through Terminal 4 (Jetstar) at Melbourne Airport. 04.01.2022 EASING RESTRICTIONS Over the past week, further restrictions have been eased throughout Queensland, see below what this means for your business; Change to two people per four square metres ... Outdoor venues with a COVID Safe Plan are permitted to increase their number of patrons from one per four square metres to one per two square metres. This includes businesses like outdoor dining, theme parks, zoos and boat tours. Change for outdoor events Seated capacity at outdoor stadiums, amphitheatres and outdoor performance venues can increase from up to 50 per cent to up to 75 per cent. The threshold for outdoor events operating under a COVID Safe Checklist has also increased from 500 to 1,000 people Change to border restrictions Queensland's border is now open to the ACT and areas of Northern NSW can travel throughout Queensland without needing an exemption or having to quarantine on entry.
