11.01.2022 Not losing fat despite cutting calories? It’s a common thing to hear: I’ve been dieting for months/years but can’t seem to lose fat. Two main things could be happening:... 1. Calorie tracking is underestimated. This is the case most of the time. 2. Calorie tracking is correct and you should be on a deficit because it worked before. What gives? Is your metabolism damaged? Long story short: No, your metabolism isn’t damaged. Your metabolism ADAPTED to a reduction in calories. This means that your body is burning fewer calories daily than it was at the start of the diet. In essence, the calorie deficit at the start of the diet is no longer a deficit. What’s the solution? Diet harder and harder? Cut calories to dangerously low levels? Remember, if you keep reducing food intake your metabolism would adapt further in order to thrive on less food. This is why it’s so easy to put on fat after a diet. So, no, cutting calories to unsustainable levels is not the answer. This is why dieting can be so tricky for many people. Cutting calories is only a small part of the picture. Understanding when and how to INCREASE calories during a diet is key to minimising the adaptations we don’t want. #trainasp #theaspeffect

08.01.2022 Protein... Is it really that important? When people think of eating protein most people think it’s just for building muscle or losing weight. If you don’t have any physical goals or if you’re not training, then why bother with getting enough protein? Firstly, protein’s role in the body is not limited to muscle recovery. Protein has many roles in the body that are very important for good health. ... Some of these roles include: Production of hormones and enzymes for chemical reactions in the body Maintaining bone health Maintaining healthy hair and nails Maintaining healthy immune system and much more. From a body composition perspective getting sufficient protein helps with: Supporting muscle growth/repair. For guys looking to put on muscle and ladies looking to get toned, this is important Helps with fat loss as protein as more satiating. The important health benefits of consuming adequate protein has, unfortunately, been over shadowed by its muscle building properties. Yes, it’s important for muscle recovery from training and maintaining lean mass as we age, but this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the benefits of protein. See more

08.01.2022 Having so much information coming at us on a daily basis and more time to spend THINKING at home can certainly be overwhelming. It also presents an opportunity to work on ourselves mentally, particularly since this is an area that an increasing (and alarming) amount of people in Victoria are facing during lockdown. We are being tested in ways we would not of thought of 12 months ago. It’s challenging. Practice observing your thoughts. Question them. Confront them. Decide wh...ether or not it will serve you and your vision moving forward. Learn to filter out negative internal chatter from taking up precious real estate in your mind and protect the positive self belief systems that you have worked hard to create for yourself in life. Keep building and improving a strong mindset. It will be a lethal combination with your training routine, especially when we reopen! We look forward to seeing you all soon. In the meantime, look after yourselves, your loved ones and reach out if you need any help with your training goals. Stay well! Thank you so much Coach @christianleightondavid for this!

03.01.2022 Dealing with cravings. It can be a tough one right? Cravings are normal and we as humans all get them. It is often a response to stress or dieting that causes this desire to consume sugary or sweet foods especially after dinner.... Try the following food swap to help focus on making better food choices, rather than chasing perfection. - Instead of consuming milk chocolate and knowing you might have issues with portion control try the following - Why not swap it for >80% dark chocolate (Lindt) this will keep cravings at bay and help satisfy your sweet tooth. - So I’m not saying don’t each chocolate, but if you do decide to then opt for the Darker version.... - Nutritional info: - 1 serving 20g Lindt 85% = 2.2g sugar 25g Cadbury Milk Chocolate = 14g sugar It’s not about restriction. It’s all about how can you do what works best for you. :)

02.01.2022 Now’s the BEST TIME to work on nutritional habits. . The absence of social gatherings, physically having to rush for work and the limitations on outside food, offers the perfect opportunity to brush up on your cooking skills and better your eating habits. If there was a perfect time in history to reset your nutrition (given your peers are also in the same boat) it’s NOW!! . Yet ironically, this stay-home phenomenon has probably caused some of us to eat more junk, sugary foo...ds and snack all day. . Sure, you might blame STRESS, and yes, while stress has a role to play in that, the biggest reason why you’re making poorer food choices is not stress, BUT what you’re choosing for the FIRST MEAL OF THE DAY. . The first meal of the day dictates your Insulin release pattern. If the meal is heavily sugar based such as cereal & skimmed milk, bread & jam, a protein shake or confectionary, your insulin WILL SPIKE in response to the elevated blood sugar levels. . What goes up must come down, often leading to an initial energy boost, then a crash. Physiologically, this triggers your cravings and your immediate need for a pick-me-up, typically a coffee or another sweet food. Your actions reflect what your physiological needs demands, and you WILL find yourself gravitating to poorer food choice, one after another through the entire day. . See how this all started from your FIRST meal. Recent Researches (swipe to see) has shown that a higher protein breakfast VS an average protein/ high-sugar breakfast beneficially altered key energy-driven and reward-driven signals that control food intake and regulation This also effective in WEIGHT LOSS through the regulation of satiety and appetite hormones. Furthermore, a higher WHOLE protein meal also doesn’t spike insulin as much, keeping it’s regulation more consistent through the day i.e, less sugar cravings. . Here’s the take home: Rather than fight your urges to eat junk, CHANGE YOUR FIRT MEAL to one higher in whole protein sources. This will let your body do the thinking for you and you’ll be surprised how you will naturally gravitate towards better foods, thus creating better nutritional habits. #trainasp #nutritiontip See more
