08.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I have created this group for anybody who has attended Puppy Preschool @ Drummoyne Veterinary Hospital. The idea behind the group is for you to share the adventures and experiences of your puppy as it continues to grow into adulthood. ... This group will give everybody an opportunity to keep in touch, share experiences, ask questions and be provided with information. Hope to see you all join and share photos and adventures with your pups

05.01.2022 On days when it’s raining, make a point to take your puppy outside frequently. Continue with your regular house-training and simply add the element of rain. Play with your pup in the rain. Show them that you’re in this together and the rain is nothing to worry about. A lot of puppies take a backwards step in toilet training when it is raining. Why is this you ask? ... I think it has more to do with them watching our body language and our reluctance to be outside getting cold and wet, impatiently waiting for them to do their business. Hurrying them along in these situations does not help, when normally, on a nice day, we are calm and patient and wait for them to go, before praising them and rewarding them for a job well done. Some puppies won’t want to go outside, but teaching them to do so will create a carefree adult dog when it comes to getting wet. As with any new behaviour, train your dog with lots of praise, treats and love. Start small by giving them praise for simply walking outside in the rain and build up from there. The first time your dog pees in the rain, let them know how proud you are. Continue those efforts until your dog is excited to go out in the rain (or at least not resistant to it). Whining, circling, sniffing, barking, or, if your puppy is unconfined, barking or scratching at the door, are all signs they need to go. Take them out right away. While you're training, don’t worry if there are setbacks. As long as you continue a management program that includes taking your puppy out at the first sign they needto go and offering them rewards, they will learn. Set up a schedule and monitor daily events of your puppy’s habits. * First thing in the morning * Last thing at night * After playing indoors * After spending time in a crate * Upon waking up from a nap * After chewing a toy or bone * After eating * After drinking Crate training your puppy is an excellent way to assist you and your pup to achieve consistent results. Always have fun with your puppy With consistency and patience, toilet training will be a distant memory once it’s mastered
