Body Mass Index = weight (kg) height () It is useful to consider BMI alongside waist circumference, as waist measurement helps to assess risk by measuring the amount of fat carried around your middle. ... A BMI of 18.5-25 indicates a healthy height to weight ratio. However, this doesnt take into account all factors, such as your age or ethnicity. Waist measurement is a simple check to tell if you are carrying excess body fat around your middle. Your waist measurement is an indicator of the level of internal fat deposits which coat the heart, kidneys, liver, digestive organs and pancreas. This can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. How to measure your waist: 1.Find the top of your hip bone and the bottom of your ribs. 2.Breathe out normally. 3.Place the tape measure midway between these points and wrap it around your waist. 4.Check your measurement. 01.01.2022 What is the best exercise for older adults? Endurance, or aerobic, activities increase your breathing and heart rate. Brisk walking or jogging, dancing, swimming, and biking are examples. Strength exercises make your muscles stronger. Lifting weights or using a resistance band can build strength. The older you get, the more you may have to work to maintain your muscles. Men and women over the age of 60 have to lift weights more often than younger adults to maintain muscle mas...s and muscle size. Bone health only becomes more important as you age. Women in particular are prone to bone mass density loss as menopause strips away much of the estrogen that keeps them strong. While most people think cardio is the best way to drop kilos and stay fit, experts say resistance and weight training work just as well and often even better. Rather than lifting heavy weights,over 60s should focus on using light weights or resistance bands to do exercises like bi-cep curls and leg pushes among others.
