25.01.2022 If you don't have any plans tomorrow, why not come and enjoy a day on the trams! Trams will run every 30 minutes from the Museum, so come and take a ride into history!

24.01.2022 December 14th is the 90th anniversary of the Glenelg Line's conversion to Tram services in 1929. We may not be running trams at the moment however, why not come and celebrate on Sunday the 15th by coming to the tram museum to have a look at our 5 H type trams! They represent the various eras of the H type tram and Glenelg Line from 1929 until 2009.

24.01.2022 In these dark times, it is important to look for the good. A little before we closed due to Covid-19, Museum member Kevin Collins captured these photos of the works on the Mangrove Street was nearing completion. In addition to the new track and road surface, new poles to support the overhead wiring were also overall installed. We would like to thank the City of Salisbury for all of their support to help us get to this point.... While we are currently closed to the public due to Covid-19, these photos show that better things will come in one way or another. Please look after yourself everyone and we will all get through this together.

22.01.2022 The Tramway Museum St Kilda Website may be down at some point over the next few days to carry out essential maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Don't forget, we're open this Sunday and Public Holiday Monday running trams to the former crossing loop! We look forward to seeing you.

21.01.2022 RECOMMENCEMENT OF TRAMWAY OPERATIONS: The Tramway Museum, St Kilda is pleased to announce that tramway operations will recommence from the Museum site to the location of the former Mangrove Street Loop on Sunday, March 10. Tramway operations ceased in October last year to allow for an internal review of Museum operations to take place. This was a voluntary decision made by the Museum Committee to take this course of action. In the interim, the Museum site has been open as a ...static display. The review has concluded that operations can resume to the former site of the Mangrove Street Loop. Plans are already in motion to ensure repairs to part of the track beyond the Mangrove Street Loop area are carried out to allow for the full resumption of service to the St Kilda Adventure Playground terminus. We take our responsibility for safe tramway operations very seriously and to this end, external assistance has been sought to help review our operating procedures. The feedback received from the consultant has also meant that we are in a position to recommence operations. We look forward to seeing as many of you on Sunday, March 10 as possible once again enjoy our heritage tram rides and experience Adelaide's tramway (and public transport) history come to life.

21.01.2022 Due to hot weather (forecast 39 degrees), the museum will not be open this Wednesday. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

21.01.2022 One of our Members/Volunteers recently visited a kindred society the Crich Tramway Village in the United Kingdom. Here are some photos of just a few of the many beautifully restored trams at Crich

21.01.2022 Courtesy of South Australia Police, we see one of our preserved H type trams (364) passing by a police traffic stop on Seaview Road in Henley Beach c.1955.

20.01.2022 The Tramway Museum St Kilda has a new website, feel free to have a look at the information about our trams or the former Adelaide tramway network, including an interactive map of the former network. We still have a few kinks work out but a big thanks to volunteers Jamie Vardon and Nicolas Benn for working on creating this new better website for the Museum. trammuseumadelaide.com

17.01.2022 One of our Volunteer Conductors getting ready for today’s operations, using an MTT mirror that would have been found in all MTT Depots to make sure that the drivers, conductors and other staff were dressed to Impress for the days duities. We are open until 5pm, come and ride a tram into history

17.01.2022 Things may have been a little bit quiet on the Facebook page but that doesn’t mean things have been quiet on the ground! Over the past few weeks, a combination of our dedicated volunteers and generous contractors have replaced over 200 timber sleepers to date on our line with more to come in the near future. In addition, three poles that support the overhead wire have also been replaced. A few worn rails have been replaced and the track joins repaired as necessary as well. Further track improvements are in the pipeline which will give our visitors a smoother and more comfortable ride.

17.01.2022 Were open! And were running! Still to the salt pans terminus but the playground is only a short drive from the museum, why not come out for a ride

14.01.2022 With a massive amount of support from the City of Salisbury, the reverse curves on the edge of town running across Mangrove Street has been replaced with new track on an improved alignment. The attached photos from Museum member Kevin Collins illustrate the amount of work going in to the new track. The new track will increase the curve radius which will not only reduce wear and tear on both the track and the tram fleet but will improve the overall condition of the level cross...ing for both tram and road traffic. Brand new grooved tramway rail (of the same pattern as used on the tram lines in the City) has been used. In addition to this new track, several replacement overhead poles have been inserted beside the track while the number of timber sleepers replaced is now over 400, double the amount from the last update. We would like to extend our thanks to the contractors involved with our track upgrading program as well as City of Salisbury for their support during this major infrastructure program.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to our friends at the Seashore Trolley Museum in the United States on reaching an incredible milestone, 80 years of operation this year! This is significant as Seashore was the first tramway/streetcar museum established in the world back in 1939 and started the tramway preservation movement.

11.01.2022 It is still possible to take a W class tram to St Kilda, you just have to come to Adelaide to do it! The Tramway Museum is open today from 12 until 5 with tram services every half an hour from the Museum to the Mangrove Street Loop.

11.01.2022 Although we are currently closed to the public due to COVID-19, that doesn't mean we can't share photos from our archive collection to everyone here on Facebook. As part of the South Australian Centenary in 1936, the Municipal Tramways Trust had newly converted E1 type tram 101 painted in an all over Ivory livery with gold lettering, chrome body fittings and exterior decorative lighting around the clerestory roof and under the driving cabin windshields. 101 was renumbered as ...100 during this period, taking the road number of A type car 100 which was temporarily numbered as 100A. This official portrait was taken in front of the main depot at Hackney. After a period of time, 101 would eventually be repainted in to the standard MTT livery of Tuscan and Cream. Some of the chrome fittings used on this tram would ultimately find their way on to our own E1 type tram 111 in preservation. Although the original photo was taken in Black and White, one of our members put the image through Photoshop to create an approximation of what it would have looked like in colour.

10.01.2022 One of our Volunteer Conductors getting ready for todays operations, using an MTT mirror that would have been found in all MTT Depots to make sure that the drivers, conductors and other staff were dressed to Impress for the days duities. We are open until 5pm, come and ride a tram into history

10.01.2022 Come and have a day of fun on our heritage trams! We're running trams between the museum and the mangrove street crossing.

10.01.2022 Due to unexpected volunteer illness, the museum will not open today. We will be open next on Wednesday the 9th of Jan, we hope to see you there!

10.01.2022 Due to the extreme heat, the museum will not be opening. If the temperature is estimated to be over 38 degrees then the museum will not open. Have a great day all!

10.01.2022 Today was a significant day in the history of tramway operation in Adelaide as it was the first time since 1906 that the trams were operated by a private company. Torrens Connect (a joint venture between Torrens Transit, UGL Rail Services, and John Holland) took over tram operations from the State Government before the first regular services ran this morning. This post is not intended to be a commentary on the politics of private vs public operation of the tramway network but is instead intended to have a look through the past 114 years of Government operation under the auspices of the Municipal Tramways Trust (MTT), State Transport Authority (STA), TransAdelaide and Adelaide Metro from our photographic archives.

08.01.2022 Our Tram operations will be temporarily suspended until further notice due to maintenance. Keep an eye open for further updates. The museum will still be open as normal with $2 donation entry, though we will be shut tomorrow due to the inclement weather. Even though trams won't be running, there are still plenty of displays to have a look at in our sheds, so why not come down and take a step back into history! Reminder, we will be shut tomorrow due to the inclement weather. We apologies for any inconvenience.

08.01.2022 Due to the extreme heat the Tramway Museum will not be open tomorrow. We apologise for any inconvenience. Just a Reminder that we will be recommencing Tramway Operations to the former Mangrove Loop 10th March 2019

07.01.2022 Due to the extreme heat, (forecast 37 degrees) the Tramway Museum will not be open tomorrow. We apologise for any inconvenience.

07.01.2022 Whilst the trams are in the shed, it provides an ideal opportunity for some visual work to take place. Yesterday saw the completion of the repaint of 264's floor. What do you think of the newly painted floor?

07.01.2022 *TRAM MUSEUM CLOSED SUNDAY 8 DECEMBER* Due to the extreme heat forecast for tomorrow, December 8th, we will not be open. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

06.01.2022 TEMPORARILY STATIC Effective Immediately (27/10/2018), the Tramway Museum St Kilda will not be running trams until further notice. The Museum will still be open to the public as a static display. As a result, our opening hours and fares are being reduced during this time. We will be open every Sunday, Public Holidays and Wednesdays during School Holidays from 12PM to 4PM.... Our fares are now down to $5 for everyone (Adults, Concessions) and a Family pass is $10. We look forward to seeing you when you visit us!

05.01.2022 From March 26, access to St Kilda (and the Museum from Port Wakefield Road will be changing. Please check this post from DPTI for information about the new arrangements.

04.01.2022 ! Temporary Closure AETM St Kilda due to COVID 19 ! In response to the COVID 19 pandemic and in line with other cultural organisations, we have taken the difficult decision to not re-open St Kilda Tram Museum until further notice. This is provisionally until 3 May 2020, but we will be reviewing the situation and updating if anything changes.... Thank you for your support and understanding at this challenging time. Stay well and we look forward to welcoming you back in due course.
