23.01.2022 Today is PTSD Awareness Day. By the nature of the job, firefighters are more likely to experience exposure to potentially traumatic events (PTEs) and Fire and Rescue NSW has a number of mental health and wellbeing resources available to support our people. Not everyone who is exposed to PTEs will experience PTSD, however many people who do suffer from it don’t recognise the symptoms and do not always seek treatment. Please seek help if you or someone you know is experiencing ...any of the following symptoms: Re-living the traumatic event, Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event, Having negative thoughts and feelings, Feeling wound-up. If you or someone you know needs help, please contact a support service such as Beyond Blue, Lifeline, or Counselling Online

16.01.2022 SEVERE TO EXTREME HEATWAVE - #NSW Increased fire danger ratings will be coming over the next week. Remember if you see a fire ring 000 immediately. An intense November heatwave is expected to affect large parts of the state for the last week of the month and persist into early December as a slow moving and very hot air mass pools over the region. ... Temperatures are expected to be more typical of a mid-summer heatwave rather than late spring, with the temperature expected to soar into the mid to high 40s across some inland areas over consecutive days. Western parts of NSW are expected to scorch, with towns such as #Bourke, #Wilcannia, #Walgett and #WhiteCliffs likely to see at least 5-6 consecutive days of 40+ temperatures and some locations possibly longer. Bourke may reach up to 46 on Sunday and Tuesday. Whilst some may think these temperatures over inland areas are typical, for this time of year they are very unusual (generally occurring in January and February), with only November 2009 and 2014 seeing similar heat. The slopes, ranges and eastern plains (#Dubbo, #Moree, #Tamworth etc) will feel the worst of the heat a little later, with the hottest airmass affecting these regions from the weekend and into early December, with temperatures into the high 30s and low to mid 40s. Further east will be spared the worst heat, with weak southerly changes preventing heat from persisting over consecutive days. #Sydney will see it’s hottest days this weekend reaching the mid 30s in the city, and up to 42 in the west. The hot airmass is expected to break down over the east of the country within the first week of December due to a cold front and an increase of moisture, showers and storms.

14.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything

10.01.2022 Once again our Sydney friends Minhai-le and Khanh-Linh have donated an incredible $10,000 worth of groceries to support our community in Trangie. The firefighters from 465, their wives, partners, families and friends all pitched in to help distribute them. These ladies had tracked me down in December of 2019 and asked me if Trangie Fire Station would assist them in the collection, packaging and distribution of their donations. Of course Trangie Fire Station was keen help and ...offer our support. These generous ladies then contacted me again in early May to ask if my station would help out again. So on Friday night my crew from 465 picked up 6 pallets worth of groceries from Narromine Coles. Saturday morning we all got up bright and early to start packing the $10,000 worth of groceries into boxes to distribute within the community. This was a huge operation for the crew at 465 but with the assisted of their wives, partners, friends and families the job was made easier with many hands helping. I can not thanks my crew, Brittany Jane Hill, Michelle Hill, Courtney Kohlenberg, Krystle Haines, Julie Dawes, Michelle Barclay, Jo Ellis, Aleisha Ellis, Rivah and Autumn Armstrong for giving up there Saturday morning to help out, without your help and support we would not have been able to get the job done so quick and efficiently. This is something that I love about my community, everyone gets in and helps out when needed. As it’s been a difficult drought season for the community of Trangie, from bushfires to now a nation wide Pandemic our community has been serverly affected, just like many other communities nation wide. The generous donation from these ladies has helped a lot of families doing it tough, from families been put off from work due to drought or the pandemic we ensured the hampers went to those in desperate need. I think this is an amazing generosity from our city friends and helps raise awareness how bad it is out here. They were willing to help and support the Trangie community with the assistance of Trangie Fire Station and my crew. I would like to pass on my personal thanks to Minhai-le and Khanh-Linh for their generosity also to to RW1 Zone Management Team for their support and assistance throughout this process. 01.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of Men’s Health Week, a week that focuses on the health impacts of men’s environments. Our people are our most important asset and their mental and physical wellbeing is crucial to ensuring we are prepared for anything. This year Men’s Health Week highlights the importance of taking the time to have regular check-ups with a general practitioner and regular check-ins with your loved ones. Some of the work Fire and Rescue NSW is doing to support our p...eople in this area includes the recruitment of Wellbeing Officers to support the roll out of mental health programs and enhancing our personal protective equipment to reduce our firefighters exposure to carcinogens. Tips from www.menshealthweek.org.au to manage your health: Be active in getting medical help if you don't feel well, have a problem that won't go away or notice unusual symptoms. It's OK to seek help - don't try to do everything on your own or bury problems. Talk to your partner, friends and workmates. Push hard to get the help you need to manage your life, work, family and financial needs. Partners - be proactive in helping your men and boys get the help they and you need. Use available hotlines, speak with professionals to get the best course of action and be persistent. Don't leave it too late to seek help. For more information visit: https://www.menshealthweek.org.au/

01.01.2022 Today 19 years ago, 343 Firefighters ran into the World Trade Center doing their job and never returned. 60 Police Officers didn’t return home from that shift. 8 EMT/Paramedics heard their last call and didn’t return home.... Today we remember their bravery and sacrifice.
