20.01.2022 MENTAL HEALTH TIPS 3 - TEENAGERS This time is especially difficult for you, developmentally you usually have strong drives for social connection, independence and developing a sense of who you are. You also have incredible creativity! Don't forget, your parental units are just humans doing the best they can right now :) The below has been used in DBT & EMDR therapy. FEEL GOOD/HOPE TOOL KIT Gather items and place them in a box or bag, then decorate it. The idea is that you c...an pull this out and use it to lift your mood using all your senses. Pick things you like from the examples below or create your own ideas. SEE - photos of fun times you have had or good friends and family, tickets of things you have been too, pictures of all the things you want to do when this is all over (places to visit, jobs you might like, things you might buy one day, special little trinkets), some paper to draw something and coloured pens, mindful colouring HEAR - little bells, make something that rattles, a note to listen to your feel good playlist that you can create on your phone. FEEL - try to find things with different textures that you can touch like stress balls, smooth rocks, hand cream, make some playdough to squeeze, wheat bag, feathers. SMELL - tiny jar of coffee, smelly hand cream, aftershave lotion, perfume sprayed on a cloth, essential oils, cloves or other spices from the cupboard. TASTE - this might be tricky right now - so get creative with what you have, tastes that you like or that are bitter, try things like water, chocolate, fruit, mint, lemon, biscuit (use a small sealed container so you don't get ants in your room) Don't forget to decorate it! You might even want to impress your parental units by asking them if you can help your younger siblings create one too. See more
