24.01.2022 Repost Transplant Australia Football Club | Ante Kelic just recently celebrated his 40th birthday. A milestone that, only several years ago, he wasn’t certain h...e’d ever see. For 15 years he suffered from a degenerative liver disease. In combination with this terrible illness, Ante also suffers from Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel disease. The combination of the two is terrible, required five major surgeries in as many years, the removal of 80% of Ante's large intestine and finally a liver transplant at the age of 35. Ante was on the transplant waiting list in Victoria for seven months. On February 2, 2015 he received a call early in the morning from the Liver Transplant Coordinator - a possible donor had been found. A long day followed, not knowing if the liver was a good match. Finally, after a marathon 11-hour overnight surgery, the news arrived that the transplant was a huge success. A few months later Ante was alive and healthy, welcoming his first child, a daughter into the world. Life ever since his transplant has been dedicated to being fully present, making memories with family, staying active and travelling extensively. Being sick for the majority of his adult years, Ante never thought he would need a transplant. He now encourages others far and wide through his media commitments, business and personal social media pages to register to donate their organs.
