22.01.2022 Warning! Transformational story ahead! I wanted to share with you all, why we do what we do, here at the Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House. Our Transforming Women course started last week. One of our wonderful participants is challenged with agoraphobia and required a support worker to be able to attend the course. Unfortunately this week, her support worker was unwell and could not bring her to the course. Our student was on the phone and extremely upset, as even though... it had been so difficult for her to attend the first week due to her challenges, she was really eager to return this week as she had already felt the benefit and didnt want to miss the class. We were able to talk her through the process of catching a taxi to Moe train station to travel by train to Traralgon where I was going to pick her up and bring her to class. This wonderful lady never usually leaves her house and definitely never without a support worker with her. She agreed that she would give it a go and phoned to let us know she was on the train. When I picked her up from the station she was visibly anxious, but so happy that she had pushed through her fears and accomplished so much in being able to get to her class. Obviously the rest of the class greeted her with applause and positive reinforcement. She was able to participate in the day and we were absolutely blown away that she was able to smash through one of her goals so early on in this course. Our amazing facilitator, Aisha, and this course has already made such an impact on her life in such a short time and we know each week she will accomplish more and more. Then we received this message from her support organisation: I want to thank you and your team today for the most amazing work with our client!! You guys assisted her to smash goals today. I can express how wonderful this was today and to hear her so excited. This is a huge achievement and I thank you and your team for being a part of her life. We never know what the day will hold here and this was a fabulous outcome and a great moment for us all. Shes now something of a crochet whiz :) This is the first time she has created a round crocheted throw for a young friends bedroom makeover. Isnt it fabulous. 12.01.2022 Meet Scott. At the age of 51 he decided he no longer wanted to be a marine mechanic, he wanted a change of career. But to what? All he knew was that he wanted to make a difference in peoples lives, to help in some way. Neighbourhood Houses are still not allowed to be open to the public except for essential services. This link may assist you with understanding some of the restrictions. As of today there is a change to the restrictions on indoor non-contact exercise. This means we can start to run exercise classes ie belly dancing, Pilates, Moving Together dance class. 03.01.2022 We have already been receiving calls from people eager to know when we will be reopening :) Yes, regional Victoria will welcome the easing of some restrictions as from midnight tonight Wednesday 16th September as we embark on Step 3. However, this does not include the opening of Centres such as ours and there are still significant restrictions regarding how many people can gather in an inside space. The Step 3 easing of restrictions will be focused on outside activities so u...nfortunately we will not be reopening just yet. It is lovely to hear how many people are eager to come back to class and once we get the go ahead we will definitely let you know. 03.01.2022 As you will have seen from previous posts, our amazing cake decorating tutor, Jody, has been taking the ISO opportunity to hone her skills in crochet. This is her 5th throw rug for a young neighbour, who admired his sisters yellow and white throw so much, that Jody made him his own in cream, with runs of mustard, forest green and navy. She patiently changed the threads of colour and also learnt a new stitch called the 'V' stitch. It's great to see people learning new skills a...nd sharing their creativity around.
