I have seen the opera Madame Butterfly by Puccini, electronic music by Thyco, and the wonderful Rachmaninov 2nd piano concerto performed by Jan Lisiecki, and Shostakovich 10th symphony by The Australian Youth Orchestra under conduction of Krzysztof Urbanski. Premier Joe Cahill in 1950 described it as ‘the people’s house’ and ‘a place of democratic nationhood’.
