24.01.2022 1st Traralgon Joey Scouts had a great evening in the canyon, exploring and eating hike food. Thank you Railway Reseve committee.

24.01.2022 Great work in the canyon today by our volunteers to remove rather large pieces of timber, and also to weed out patches of cotoneaster, pittosporum, blackberry, deadly nightshade and bridal creeper.

23.01.2022 A beautiful cold morning for a walk to Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve then through Victory Park. Many walkers, runners and dog owners out this morning. Have a great weekend everyone. #LoveWhereYouLive

23.01.2022 If you’re looking for a nice walk this weekend, the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve is looking beautiful at the moment and the new toilet block is almost ready for use. #activeLatrobe #LoveLatrobe

22.01.2022 Here's a blast from the past - 2013 - with the City of Traralgon Band. Note how dry it is!

22.01.2022 To all Friends of the Res and our volunteers, please be advised that Latrobe City Council has informed us there are to be no volunteer activities undertaken during this current period of lockdown. Also no volunteer can enter any of the buildings connected to their volunteering group except for public toilets.

20.01.2022 Well, we have just had the last working bee for the year, so would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers who have put in an extraordinary effort this year. It started with intense work to hand water many plantings over the summer, then to keep going under COVID restrictions to make sure The Res was a safe place for the increased patronage it received during those times was awesome. Our committee members have also delivered in terms of seeing the Shed establish...ed and carrying out their duties in advocating for the continued maintenance and future planning for, and safeguarding of, this wonderful reserve. A big shout out to today's helpers: Elizabeth, Sarah and Evie, Helen and Eliza, Barb, Tony, Carly, Mary, Carolyn, Erika, John, Graeme and Gary! A safe and happy Christmas to you all.

20.01.2022 It is World Wetlands Day today raising awareness of the vital role of wetlands for people and our planet. This day marks the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. We are proud that our wetlands, though small, are a valuable ecosystem for birds and aquatic life in particular.

19.01.2022 Wind, trees, power lines, branches falling onto power lines, fire. A big thank you to the crew who were on the spot to deal with this little event in one corner of our Reserve.

18.01.2022 You don't have to go far to spot some beautiful wildlife in Gippsland! One of our team members, Jay, snapped this incredible photo of a Nankeen Night Heron at the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve recently.

18.01.2022 The Canyon Over the last 100 years this overflow drainage ditch from the Traralgon Railway Reservoir has eroded through the action of water, rain and wind. It i...s framed by overhanging eucalypts and allocasuarinas and has been a wonderful playground for children to imagine in and explore for many generations. Fay Langstaff was a young girl who enjoyed playing here back in the 1930’s and spent many hours exploring the caves, climbing the mountains and searching for wildflowers. Fay’s father would warn her Watch out for those horses or they’ll kick! And so the name Kick-Horse Canyon came about, a term well known and still used by locals to this day. 18.01.2022 If you have been looking at birds, and now notice you have lost your glasses, you might want to retrace your steps.

18.01.2022 Good news! The toilet at Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve is finally open. After some initial problems with water and power supply, we have bee...n able to fix it all and open for the 6,000 plus visitors per month to the reserve. No official mayoral opening for this very important building

18.01.2022 Keep your eyes open, everyone! And we agree it is a very fine looking specimen.

16.01.2022 Let’s go on a virtual tour of the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve. Thanks to @reeecesmee for taking us along for the ride!

15.01.2022 More of a hike than a stroll, in misty dewy conditions, the highlight for me was to see at least two tiny finches with speckles of white on their chests. Also a... baby black cockatoo,on a large vacant block with a variety of gums, a sanctuary for lorikeets also. Plenty of birdsong. Random conversations with beautiful strangers and Harley also having the opportunity to get up close with other fur babies and hoomans. Shared a delectable strawberry and maple muffin at Three Little Birds on the return leg. See more

12.01.2022 Next working bee for registered volunteers is Saturday, December 5, meeting at the Shed at 9.15 am.

11.01.2022 More pictures of the elevated water levels. Thanks, Barb.

10.01.2022 Please be aware that snakes are on the move.

09.01.2022 Hold on We are relieved to announce that now you don’t have to! The much loved Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve now has a public toilet! 08.01.2022 Tools down for a moment to appreciate the serenity! Great turn-out for today's working bee where we really appreciated five new pairs of hands joining us!!!! A big thank you to Merrilyn, Barb, Erika, Carly, Mary, John, Carolyn, Sylvia, Bruce, Graeme, Tony, Sarah and especially Evie. Today's main task was attacking the Caper Spurge (Euphorbia Lathyris).

07.01.2022 With warmer weather coming up, please remember these guys are still out and about. This fine specimen was crossing the east end of the dam wall today.

05.01.2022 Volunteers Week has recently been held to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of community members to improving the lives of people and the planet. Here's a shout-out to the Friends of the Res and others who put in many hours planting, weeding, liaising with Latrobe City on numerous matters, raking, doing safety checks, dealing with fallen timbers, unblocking drains, painting, repairing, and dealing with other people's rubbish. Not to mention seeking sponsorships, writing submissions, attending meetings, mowing, watering ... the list could go on. Thank you all whole-heartedly!.
