20.01.2022 Shhh! Dont wake her just yet, shes resting up because theres... ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO!! When it departs Adelaide on 30 August 2020, it will bring to an en...d the longest non-operating period in The Ghans 91-year history. Somewhat of an allegory for the pioneering Australian spirit, The Ghan has bounced back through drought, outback flash floods, the Great Depression, and even served for Australia in World War II (more on that later this week). We couldnt be more excited to see The Ghan return to the rails - let the countdown begin! : intermodal_adventures (via IG)

15.01.2022 86BPL is one of our medium to long term restoration projects. Around 1998 to 2000, 86 was transferred to Moorooduc for eventual restoration. In 2018 it was agre...ed to move 86 into the shed for life extension works, as its condition was getting worse sitting otherside in the weather. Upon an initial examination, it was decided to make 86BPL a full restoration project. The BPL type carriages were known to many commuters as Bouncing Passenger Lounges for their ride quality on country lines and were used in almost every corner of the Victorian Railways network and featured heavily on troop and excursion trains. Built in 1921 as a first class carriage 30APL, the carriage has undergone many changes over its lifetime. In 1923 a short 2 years after construction, it was made into 86BPL, meaning it was now a second class carriage. In 1959 it received its vestibule gangways and in 1966, 86 was converted from gas lighting to electrical lighting as well as receiving a full overhaul. Abruptly in 1970 the carriage was retired from service, the close proximity of a major overhaul to its retirement was a major contribution in 86s survival as for the next 48 years it would sit outside. In 1971 86 along with a ZL guards van and steam locomotive K154 were sold and placed in the Old Gippstown Museum in Moe as part of a railway display. From Moe, 86 was acquired by the Mornington Railway and moved to Moorooduc. The initial strip down process of 86 has been completed for the most part, the stickwood and roof canvas were deemed unsalvageable but luckily, majority of the timber body frame is sound, which is surprising considering the time it spent outside in the elements. Aside from luggage racks and sliding doors ,the interior was complete when the project started, which is a huge advantage. Any further restoration works are currently on hold due to our competing project, guards van 7CV being of a higher priority. Upon completion of 7CV, it is hoped that work on 86 will once again resume. This carriage will be a very challenging but very rewarding project, BPLs were a quintessential Victorian Railways carriage and being able to restore and hopefully one day operate one of the few survivors will be quite an honor, and we cant wait to get working on her again!

14.01.2022 *** IMPORTANT UPDATE - TRAINS RETURN TO THE MORNINGTON RAILWAY***** We wish to advise the public that we will be recommencing train running from Saturday 14th o...f November, when we plan to run the first of a series of trains for testing and maintenance purposes. This is to ensure that our infrastructure is safe and ready for restarting passenger train operations shortly under our Covid-safe arrangements. We are aware that many people have been enjoying walking along the rail corridor during our enforced closure, but its important that this practice now ceases, as we will be returning to operational status and passenger and volunteer safety are paramount. You will shortly see new signage at entrance points to the railway advising that the corridor is now closed to unauthorised public use under Rail Safety National Law. In the future we would like to be able to share the corridor with the public in a safe and controlled manner, so please consider supporting the team at Mornington Community Safe Link, who are working closely with us and many other stakeholders, including environmental groups, to establish a much-needed shared-usage path along the railway line between Moorooduc Station and Mornington Station so that the public, train operation and our unique natural biodiversity in the corridor can safely co-exist. You can sign the Safelink petition by following the link shown below: http://chng.it/QLKsSBfL Image with thanks @https://www.facebook.com/danielle.carlisle1

06.01.2022 A Storm in South Wales A rare run into South Wales on 29th July saw 70000 Britannia running as long lost classmate 70022 Tornado from Bristol to Camarthen w...ith The Pembroke Coast Express. Running as an authentic Western Region varient, the change in the Locomotive Services Ltd stelwart guise delighted many, but also caused confusion to masses. Starting the day off at Bristol, the Brit is seen on Filton bank at two angles before our cameras moved into Wales. From here the action is seen climbing Llanharan Bank, storming away from Neath and racing along the coast at Pwll. For the return, the semaphores at Ferryside provide the backdrop as 70022 sweeps through the station. Following the water stop, we next see the tour accelerating past Margam yard before finishing the day with the Brit racing over Stormy summit. Class 47 D1935 Roger Hosking MA 1925 - 2013 can be seen at the rear of the train. The diesel was in the consist to provide power to the train as well as to assist with shunting at Carmathen.

02.01.2022 Get to know DVR a bit better with the A to Z of DVR! Each day we will share a picture that relates to a letter in the alphabet. Today the letter is R and R is f...or Reverse Running! DVR runs its trains in the same direction around its tracks for nearly every running day it operates for the public, however on a couple of occasions each year the railway will turn the trains around and run around the line is the reverse direction to normal, this is known as Reverse Running! Passengers and members enjoy the opportunity to do something a bit different and it is a different experience heading around DVR in the reverse direction to normal. Pictured here are DVRs 8172 and 7256 passing through the Avenue of Honour in the reverse direction to normal.
