24.01.2022 Hotham is CLOSED due to the fires danger. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by and out there fighting the fires in our beautiful high country and further afield. But remember thoughts and prayers are not enough - even better to tell the so-called leadership of this country to get their act together or get out of the way.

22.01.2022 We gave it our best, held out hope for the COVID lockdown lifting and kept on skiing so long as we could still string patches of snow together... but alas season 2020 looks to be all over red rover. Some pics of our final DIY trail efforts and XC skiing enjoyed today in advance of it being washed away by the rain coming in this evening. We look forward to the prospect of a much better season 2021 on multiple fronts and discovering more trails less travelled. Happy ski dreams.

20.01.2022 What a success the Vic Backcountry Festival at Hotham was over the weekend - and we were stoked to be part of it. In the cross country ski department, we had beginner lessons across Saturday and a half-piste backwoods tour on Sunday. No the skiers lying on the snow are not dying of exhaustion, rather it was all about learning to get up easily and safely - essential stuff for an XC beginner lesson. Out in the woods next day we were lucky to enjoy amazing fresh snow and fine weather... just magic! Thanks to the organisers Mountain Journal and to YHA Cross Country Ski Club for support with the tour.

16.01.2022 Well heres one for the history books - a 50cm dump of lovely fresh white stuff for May Day! While sadly few are around to enjoy it in person at this strange and difficult time, perhaps a harbinger of more to come when hopefully at some stage this Winter well be able to get out there and enjoy our favourite Alpine playgrounds!?

14.01.2022 There's snow on the ground so we're up and running for season 2021! For now we're only able to offer lessons and tours to guests from regional Victoria and interstate. Kudos to our Melbourne friends keeping us all safe and we hope they'll be able to travel freely soon. Lessons and experiences start from just $65 per person - and a wider than ever selection of private lessons/tours start from $130 for one or two persons. However so long as this lockdown does the job on COVID and there's enough snow, we plan to offer as many cross country lessons, Nordic/XC tours and snowshoe experiences as we possibly can to cabin-fever afflicted Victorians in the latter half of September. Stay safe, keep your distance and maintain your sanity with hopes for some Spring snow adventures.

09.01.2022 Oh how things can change - from no snow to possibly a late second chance. Hard to truly say yet how much snow we'll get, but Hotham is OPEN again and suffice to say we'll have *some* snow this weekend, much to the delight of regional Victorians who've missed what little season we had so far under lockdown. If (and that's a big IF) we get enough snow across the next couple of days, some cross country trails *may* be packed/groomed by Hotham resort management. In such case, we'...ll be available for private XC ski lessons with visitors from regional VIC this weekend - if there are enough enquiries, we may run a 'COVIDsafe' group beginner XC lesson Saturday morning. 08.01.2022 Dreaming of the trails - sooo hope to see Wire Plain looking like this in Winter 2020. Were just as anxious as the next snow lover to find out whats in store, suffice to say we think cross country skiing and snowshoeing are great ways to enjoy our beautiful alpine landscape without social distancing worries! Our current plan is to be operational with cross country ski lessons, snowshoe experiences, backwoods XC touring and more from JULY. 08.01.2022 With yesterdays announcement that Hotham lift operations have been suspended following recent COVID-19 developments, were currently assessing the situation. Of course, we dont need lifts - but we are yet to fully understand how this may impact our planned operations. For something new and a bit of a challenge today we skated the Do it your way Kangaroo Hoppet 2020 21km and 7km respectively - doing it our way meant it was at Hotham instead of Falls! 06.01.2022 Due to limited snow cover, weve further delayed kicking off our cross country ski lessons, snowshoe experiences and Nordic/XC ski tours - we now plan to commence Wednesday 22 July at Hotham and Monday 27 July at Dinner Plain (subject to some more snowfall in the meantime). 03.01.2022 It's been a busy opening weekend for us at Hotham - we appreciate the support and the snow which has been just enough to get us started! For now the snow cover in Dinner Plain isn't enough for us to run a group lesson tomorrow (Monday) morning - we will however be around tomorrow afternoon in the DP Hut and school areas so feel free to stop by and say hi or ask a question.
