16.01.2022 ANZAC Day The pre-schoolers learned that ANZAC Day is celebrated every year on the 25th of April, and it is a day of remembrance. Children engaged in various ANZAC Day activities as they learned about the meaning, facts, and traditions of this special day. They worked collaboratively on an ANZAC Day poster, created paper poppies, and coloured the Australian flag which they used in their parade to honour the brave soldiers who have fought and are serving our country. Children ...enjoyed enacting the story of John Jack Simpson, the brave Australian soldier who rescued the wounded during world war 1. Childern laughed as they (wounded soldiers) were bandaged and carried to safety on stretchers(cots) and on donkeys (children’s backs). The pre-schoolers planted their paper poppies in the front garden and kept a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the brave soldiers. Through this celebration we lay the foundation for peace, empathy, and respect and children develop an understanding of the world around them. See more

12.01.2022 HOLI Children and educators enjoyed celebrating Holi also know as the ‘Festival of Colours’ with great enthusiasm. The stage was set with troughs of coloured water, dry Holi colours, water balloons and Indian music. Smiling colourful faces ran around the yard chanting Holi hai, dancing, squirting colour and throwing water balloons at each other. Through this special celebration, children expanded understanding and appreciation for the diverse culture of the centre.

09.01.2022 Camping adventure The Dolphins have created beautiful memories during their 3-day camping adventure. Before we embarked on the outdoor learning, we discussed things we might need for our camping adventure, fun things we could do and how to protect ourselves from the sun and from insects. Some of the fun and learning children were engaged in-Campfire Songs- Children joined in singing some of their favourite songs during circle time around the pretend campfire. ... Creating Snack Packs- children created their snack packs for the nature walk by selecting items from the small bowls of marsh mallows, chips, popcorn, crackers, and biscuits and filling their zip-lock bags. Nature Walk- children investigated, rocks, compared lengths of sticks, enjoyed their snack packs, tasted the lemons and oranges they had picked from the garden and talked about how the Aboriginal people collected food from the bush. Stories and Music- children danced to their favourite party songs, played the guitar, read storybooks, and listened to campsite stories during naptime. Fun and Games- Toss and ring, sack race, scooter rides, painting on bark, and creating patterns with driftwood, cones, and leaves. We couldn't had done this without the support of the families. Thank you for sending in loads of food, camping, gear and story books. It was an amazing experience both for the children and the educators, but the highlight was sleeping in tents and under the sun in the outdoor environment.

02.01.2022 World Health Day The Pre-school children celebrated the event by engaging in participatory activities such as yoga, stories, cooking a vegetable soup, making a fruit smoothie and grilled veg salad. Aboriginal perspectives were incorporated through the aid of technology and children demonstrated knowledge by actively contributing to group discussions. Children learned about Australian Bush Tucker and how the Aboriginal people hunted and gathered food, cooked/roasted foo...d on fire and used native plants for medicinal purpose, opposed to us buying our food from supermarkets and cooking in microwave ovens and visiting the hospital when sick. Health and Nutrition was explored through activities and discussions like sometime versus everyday food, packing a healthy lunch box, drinking water and milk, making healthy life choices, safety, and fitness. An amazing week packed with hands on learning! See more
