We’d love to learn more about some of the interesting, unusua...l or outstanding things that past students are doing today. Please email Darryl Martin ([email protected]) if you have suggestions or information to share. Nathan Lay graduated from Chairo in 2005 and then completed his Bachelor of Music at the Melba Conservatorium of Music. He has since established a career in the Melbourne opera, oratorio and concert scene. At Wesley of Warragul on Sunday 23 May at 2.30 pm, Nathan will be performing Shubert’s Winterreise with pianist Brian Chapman. Tickets are available from trybooking.com/BQAIF and there is no charge for students. See the flyer below for more information. Nathan has performed with Opera Australia, Melbourne Opera, Sydney Chamber Opera, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Victorian Opera. He was the winner of the 2016 Australian International Opera Award, which enabled him to study with highly-acclaimed international tenor Dennis O’Neill at the Wales International Academy of Voice. In March 2017, Nathan was involved in the inaugural release on the new Australian Sony Masterworks label. The album, titled Remembrance, featured songs and poems in memory of the soldiers that fought in WW1, with Nathan featuring on ten tracks. During 2018, Nathan reprised his role of Bunyip Bluegum in Victoria Opera’s production of The Magic Pudding - The Opera. Following this, he worked with Opera Australia touring Victorian schools for their production of By the Light of the Moon (The Owl and the Pussycat). In late 2018, Nathan joined popular Australian classical crossover group The Ten Tenors and toured with them for two months around the USA. This year, Nathan performed the title role of Narcissus in Victorian Opera’s new commission Echo and Narcissus and has joined the full-time chorus at Opera Australia.
