17.01.2022 Happy Record Store day today in America. 11 of the best years of my life spent working with Virgin both here and the USA. I was hoping to get out today to buy the new Strokes album on vinyl, titled "The new abnormal" with album cover art work by the late artist Basquiat. I just have to get it! The photo below is of Eddie Cochran and his fiancee Sharon Sheeley in a Los Angeles record store in 1959.

14.01.2022 Antiques and vintage are alive and well in the southern highlands where I just spent the last few days exploring the shops with two lovely friends, both antique collectors. Although my interest mainly lie with Mid Century I was brought up in a home full of antiques. With my mask on and sanitizer in my bag we visited, Dirty Janes in Bowral with its eclectic mix of small stalls, The newly reopened ‘Lancelot Antiques’ shop with its front covered in old ivy is on main st Bowr...al. The inside is reminiscent of Libertys department store London with its mock Tudor walls. All the pieces from England. Just fabulous. Mossy’ in Moss Vale where I picked up some amazing Japanese bath towels and a bespoke Wabi Sabi stool with a vegetable tanned leather top for the future Japanese inspired bathroom. Nextdoor is ‘Made By Others’, a great little shop with lots of clever designs from Europe, as well as locally made toys. I picked up a Marimekko top Haamuruutu (phantom square) design by Pentti Rinta’s who designed for Marimekko from 1969 to 1987. Bowerbird on Argyle Street, not for me but I loved their eclectic art. Mittagong Antiques centre where I picked up some traditional Scottish shortbread from the Scottish shop plus another bottle of wax. Lots of Militaria, Lalique, furniture etc Lydie du Bray French Antiques in Braemar. Worth a visit especially the gardens. Robertson’s antique centre a mix of old and new. A quick stop in Berrima, not many vintage or antique stores mainly clothing stores and coffee shops but Berkelouw book barn still exists further up the highway, now also housing Bendooley estate restaurant and bar. Oh and a visit to Noel at Merchant of Welby on the old Hume Hwy at Welby. Beautifully restored antique pieces lots of Cedar pieces. A great collection of Australian drip glaze pottery. Can’t wait to go back again,

04.01.2022 Original boxed pair of Mid century Festivo Glass Candle holders by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala Finland. Timo Sarpaneva originally designed the Festivo candle holder as a wine glass for himself. His goal was to be able to fit an entire bottle of wine into a single glass. The result was a rough surfaced, ice-like glass with the bowl and base sections blown separately. One day when noticing the base sections sitting on their own in the factory, they were inspired to turn them into candle holders-- and so the prototype of a new classic was born. In production since 1967, the Festivo series has become a true icon of the Finnish home. https://www.etsy.com//857005455/original-boxed-pair-iittal
