04.01.2022 Another quick read about a deadly regional Indigenous business! Micro-Story: Francis Murray is the owner and operator of Spinifex Transport based in Birdsville. The road to business was one of necessity for Francis rather than a dream. He says, Almost thirty years ago my father suddenly died, and I needed work that would help me to financially support my mother and baby brother. During this time, an opportunity arose for him to purchase a small body-truck. Francis says So..., at the age of 20, I started work as a contractor on my local shire in road construction gangs. Spinifex Transport now supplies road-train water carts for road construction in remote areas. Running a business in the regions can be difficult at the best of times and now the impacts of COVID have been seen in many businesses. But Francis has learnt that the power of positivity can go a long way in small business. He says Try not to get stressed when things get tough. After over twenty years of stressing about the business I finally realised that it always turns out alright and the stress only makes it harder than it needs to be. During COVID so far Spinifex Transport have been lucky, Francis says We are fortunate to have work in a western Queensland shire that has received stimulus funding for road works, so for us, there is some security into the near future. This optimistic view has kept Spinifex going. If you would like to find out more you can contact Francis at Spinifex Transport via email - [email protected] Thanks for taking the time to read about another fantastic Indigenous business. If you need business support during COVID please contact the HOTLINE (07) 3063 4767 Mon-Fri 7am-7pm. #IndigenousBusiness #OpenForBusiness #MicroStoriesOfIndigenousBusiness #MicroStories #100Stories #TradingBlak #SupportSmall #MakingItForQueensland #QueenslandBusiness #SmallBusinessQueensland
