25.01.2022 It was a pleasure to be at the launch of the Department of Child Protections Aboriginal Action Plan with Ochre Dawn Creative Industriess Rebecca Wessels and Elizabeth Close - Aboriginal Artist You can learn more about the Action Plan in the news story here: https://lnkd.in/gRAKg6T... These projects are all about building relationships, understanding the client journey and artwork story (deep listening) and communicating this knowledge in a genuine and respectful way which also engages the end reader. To do this effectively I work under the guidance of the International Indigenous Design Charter -IDC #naidoc2019 #graphicdesign #collaboration

24.01.2022 Today, Reconciliation SA honours and celebrates Human Rights Day. This year, Human Rights Day marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human R...ights, a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Today, we reflect on the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We recognise and stand with our brothers and sisters of all cultures and lands who today continue to fight for fundamental rights to be recognised, and who as a consequence suffer humiliation, trauma, and genocide living without a future, and surviving in hope for humanity. The declarations set a benchmark to which we can hold ourselves, and our governments, to account. http://www.standup4humanrights.org/en/

23.01.2022 Interesting commentary on the design of the Russian athletes "unbranded" winter Olympic uniform.

21.01.2022 Woods Bagot and US design firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro have been announced as the winning design team for the Adelaide Contemporary International Design Competition. I'd love to see this built. There's a strong connection to country and to the gardens in this concept.

17.01.2022 Its disappointing to still see this happening. The AFL have had a Reconciliation Action Plan since 2014. Victorian Greens MP Lidia Thorpe said other Aboriginal artists had reported running into similar issues around intellectual property with the AFL.

17.01.2022 It has been an absolute pleasure to work on the redesign of the Speld-SA newsletter. It's a long publication (30+ pages) which I've read every issue of over many years. I'm looking forward to it arriving in my letterbox soon.

14.01.2022 Russell Howcroft spoke at the National Press Club today. His speech "The Creative Economy Deficit" is worth listening to. He remarked that Australia has not yet realised that creativity will be the driver of our future growth and competitiveness. He proposes that Australia has a Creativity Commission in place by 2020. Let's hope this promotes serious discussion in the media, business and government.

14.01.2022 Great communication. Best since Grim reaper?

12.01.2022 This week is National Reconciliation Week where we are invited to learn, share and acknowledge the rich histories and cultures of the First Australians. I have worked with Ochre Dawn Creative Industries to design the Reconciliation Week media images and Government event calendar for the Department of Industry and Skills using the Reconciliation Week theme. This year's artwork is by Elizabeth Close - Aboriginal Artist. You can see more of her work at the "Because of her" exhibition on in the foyer of SA Water from noon today. #DontKeepHistoryaMystery #LearnShareGrow

10.01.2022 Yesterday at the Labor Party Conference in Adelaide Australian Labor Party launched its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). - The first by any political party in Australia. I have been honoured to be a part of the indigenous led team to produce the RAP document. The striking artwork is by Elizabeth Close - Aboriginal Artist and it was great to see her on the stage at the launch today. View the RAP here: https://www.alp.org.au//1509/reconciliation_action_plan.pdf... My role was to design the document using historic, strategic and Indigenous elements (text and images) into an engaging and thoughtful document that is respectful, educates and hopefully inspires. 08.01.2022 BREAKING: At an event this morning in Perth, BHP and Rio Tinto have thrown their weight behind the Uluru Statement from the Heart. BHP CEO Andrew Mackenzie said...: A First Nations voice to parliament is a meaningful step towards reconciliation We will work with Australias leaders, and use our voice to support the call to give Indigenous Australia the constitutionally-enshrined voice it deserves. 06.01.2022 ABC TV #waronwasteau tackles #fastfurniture aka #fastdesign tonight! + The ethics around #landfill & how junk chain store furniture supporters - aka those who ...snap up a $59 bargain whilst buying printer paper - or defend supermarkets who sell #fakedesign (aka #i love xyz chain .... but....) - shows just how out of whack consumer expectation is with consumer behaviour + If we feed our kids organic food not fast food, and if we deride fast fashion over ethical supply chains that employ humane production practice - surely it is time to put a stop to fast design? + Ahead of tonights episode - why not UNLIKE any replica or copy suppliers you might follow? + Kudos Craig Reucassel for a stellar series on the topics our law makers must immediately act on! + #stopdesigntheft #replicaisfake #getrealbuyrealsupplyreal #supportoriginaldesign #supportaustraliandesign #authenticdesign #authenticdesignalliance See more
