24.01.2022 This week we look at the short 'Parable of the two sons in Matthew 21, and how Jesus uses this to show the very comfortable and self-righteous Pharisees that tax collectors and prostitutes are taking up the call of Kingdom and going ahead of them. So while the self-righteous are like the lazy son who sits comfortably watching TV and gives mere lip service to his Father, others are taking up the call seriously and coming to faith. It's been observed that those experiencing gr...ace and mercy from God for the first time and turn their hearts to him - who have been used to a life of rejection and feeling unloved - often have a real drive and enthusiasm to serve in the Kingdom any way they can. This can really contrast with those who've been brought up very comfortably in the church, who go to worship each Sunday and say and do all the right things and think they know it all. But inside they are pretty bored with the things of God and have no heart, drive or emotion to do very much for him at all. Nonetheless, God's call for emotional connection and service in his Kingdom goes out both to the comfortable and the lost. Come and connect with us in person at Trinity Pasadena at 9.30am this Sunday as we hear God not only challenge us but also to encourage us to keep praying for the lost to hear God's call to them and turn their hearts to him. You will be welcome! As usual we will also be posting our service online later.

24.01.2022 You can find today’s message here on our website. Blessings for the week ahead! https://pasadena.lutheran.org.au//sermon-for-the-3rd-sund/

23.01.2022 We all have emotional buckets and sometimes we can get to overflow when hurts grudges, unforgiveness and bitterness build up and spill over into others. Jesus' teaching on forgiveness in the Parable of the unmerciful servant challenges us to ensure that we keep a short account of wrongs; not letting unforgiveness get to overflow but always keeping an open tap of God's grace to empty the hurts that build up inside. Come and connect in with the message on this topic at 9.30am Sunday at Trinity Pasadena as we explore Jesus' Word to us. You'll be welcome!

21.01.2022 Come and join us this Sunday, 6th September at 9.30am for teaching on reconciliation and forgiveness. It is never ever easy to reconcile and come face to face with someone who has hurt us, or if we have hurt them. But God challenges us not to get too comfortable in living our lives knowing that there is an unresolved problem with a loved one.

20.01.2022 Don’t forget the clocks changing! Come at 9.30am this Sunday 4th October to join us for worship and learn about God’s song of disappointment in Isaiah chapter 5. Like us, God too has his moments of disappointment and unfulfilled expectations when plans don’t work out. But we can be thankful for his patience as he works to guard us against the grape rot of sin to make good fruit in us because of him who grafts into the vine of Jesus! If you can’t join us in person, we will share our service online later for your worship at home.

18.01.2022 https://youtu.be/FXwHJAl3RsM It is the final week of our sermon series on Paul’s letter to the Philippians and this week the theme is on the Spirit's gift in us all to be able rejoice in the Lord in every difficult circumstance and trial. Anxiety is a key issue we focus on this week as both our thought life, and what we feed our minds can often increase negative perceptions of others and feed our fears. When we turn to God in prayer and let his strength enable us to do all th...ings through Christ, he can change so many things including our hearts and our perceptions of the world. I hope the preaching on Paul’s letter to the Philippians has been a blessing to you all and given you some spiritual fuel for the road ahead. Blessings, Pastor Matt.

12.01.2022 https://youtu.be/G64acZsMsSI As we finish the final part of our sermon series on Pauls’ letter to the Colossians we explore these two themes, salt and bitterness. In chapters 3 and 4 of this letter Paul brings it all home to his readers as he extends the concept of our life in Christ to be applied to domestic life; for husbands, wives, children, slaves and masters, plus how we relate to people outside the faith. How we relate to people, comes down to how we choose to speak to... each other. Paul says in chapter 4:6: Let your words be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to respond to everyone. Emotions often get the better of us when we argue; it’s normal for many of us that negative emotions such as anger can hijack our brains and stop us from responding to our loved ones the way we should. Applying the salt of the Gospel and seasoning our words regularly can help prevent decay in marriages and in parenting, promoting regular forgiveness to help cancel out those feelings of bitterness. Listen to Pastor Matt’s message as he not only unpacks the text, but also suggests helpful techniques to help spouses and parents counter the effects of emotional bitterness building up in relationships by teaching ways to signal time outs from arguments that become too intense, building effective repair and forgiveness.

11.01.2022 Today we said goodbye to our pastoral student Joel Grieger and his family. Joel led our service and brought us the message which will be shared on our website in due course. We also had a psalm composed by Pastor Matt and attendees through an experiential workshop at the New Horizons conference, hosted this weekend at Trinity Pasadena. Well done to everyone involved and thank you for enriching our worship today! Blessings to Joel and his family on the next step of their journey towards pastoral ministry.

10.01.2022 Online service only this week! We are thankful to be able to record the service now that the restrictions permit Pastor Matt, our Pastoral student Joel Grieger and those assisting with tech to be present this morning for recording. Our church leadership have made some very wise and timely decisions for our congregation this week in a time of rapid change and we've all had to be quite adaptable. ... This coming week will be an important one to abide by the government's instructions and we continue to keep watch for any community transmission and pray this outbreak can be successfully contained. As soon as the online service is available, it will be posted here and on our website.

09.01.2022 This is the prayer of Private Desmond Doss in World War 2 who is famous for his daring rescue under enemy fire of 75 wounded American soldiers. Private Doss was a Christian committed to non-violence who refused to handle a gun or fire a single shot, and served as a medic at the battle of Okinawa against the Japanese. Desmond risked his life again and again to go back to the battlefield treating and carrying the wounded to safety; praying each time: 'Lord, please help me find ...one more!' The landowner in Jesus' parable of the vineyard workers (Matthew 20:1-16) is one such person like Desmond who goes out again and again to gather workers for his vineyard having compassion on them and being generous to them (despite envy and bitterness from some of the workers) to give them a future and a hope. This is the sort of God that we have who goes out gather his lost children in this battle ridden world, and we too should pray like Private Desmond Doss: 'Lord, please help me find one more' when we go out to reach out to the broken and lonely who need a church family. We all can certainly pray generally for the mission of the church, but perhaps you can start very simply by trying to reach just one person at a time and praying that simple prayer. Come and connect in with us at Trinity Pasadena this Sunday and hear God's message to us on this topic as we unpack this striking parable.
