15.01.2022 Once your groundwork is established & your horse will stay out of your space & follow the feel of the rope it is easy to teach things that will help with your riding -this mare has had very little handling had to roped to be caught when she went to Catherine & she has been working on her groundwork & has come to me to be broken in This is a handy little trick to have in your toolbox - a horse that will step up to you to mount - we havent done the mounting yet but she is learning to come when asked & be still at the mounting block - a great start Happy horsing

15.01.2022 Jumped her a little last night has a real ping in her Super fun mare

15.01.2022 Im thinking of running a clinic where you can come work with my horses on the ground Some clients have young uneducated horses & being able to work & feel how a horse should carry themselves staying soft & light on the end of a lead line - how working in a round yard leads to liberty work & developing a connection you might not think possible with a horse Please let me know interest - different approach to training people .... the horses are easy to train ... ***All horses should lead like this - & I do have some bigger horses happy horsing

14.01.2022 teach your horse to passge dont make him - Choccie learning passage steps - literally baby steps but this is the beginning - do you want help establishing a relationship with your horse do you dream of getting outside your comfort zone & achieving more Call today - first lesson free - see what you & your horse can do together :)

14.01.2022 This little mare has come for some basic handling / training - been waiting a while as she wouldnt float load & even a professional truck company couldnt get ...her on - today she self loaded first time It was a leading problem rather than a float problem some work learning to follow the feel or a rope, move shoulders hind quarters when asked the floating was easy Horses learn from a release of pressure - when your timing becomes good & you keep that concept in your mind it is much easier to help your horse want to try for you Happy horsing See more

12.01.2022 TO THOSE THAT THINK GROUNDWORK IS BULLSH!T I get you.you dont need it.your coach doesnt do it.your friends dont do it.you have only ever seen it done bad...ly.its bullsh!t. . You think it is pointless, unnecessary and something that those crazy rope twirling people do that are too scared to ride their horses.. (see note #1) . Plus, the small circles are damaging to the horses joints.(see note #2) . You might not actually be saying these exact statements, but I use to. . Even when I started off learning how to train horses better I would ignore all the groundwork steps and go straight to ridden activities. . I just had no interest, I didnt see the point. I was brave enough to ride. But I just didnt get it, you see..groundwork, is not for US, its for the HORSE. . I discovered its real role gradually. I had a lot of success and improvements with my horse just by learning how to communicate and train better from the saddle. However, I started dabbling in groundwork and discovered the groundwork activities I did really helped my horse improve under saddle. It was when I identified this that I really delved into the activity and discovered how beneficial groundwork was to the horse both mentally and physically. . In a nutshell, removing the rider from the equation as the horse learns to balance, gymnastically strengthen, learn how learn and develop an attitude of working well with you.is EASIER for the horse when it does not have to carry you at the same time! Learning to cope with new environments (e.g. competition venues) and events (e.g. clinics, club days and events) is also EASIER to learn to cope with without a rider sitting on their backs getting nervous and tense too! . For instance, a common issue people have with horses is tension or anxiety in canter. Typically, I put these horses in the round pen or online and sure enough, the horse is tense and anxious in canter minus the rider! So, if the horse is unbalanced and not confident in the gait WITHOUT a rider, it is going to be really unbalanced and NOT confident WITH rider because hauling a rider is even harder on the horse. I then take the time to allow the horse to get balanced and confident in canter in groundwork and this makes the transition to cantering under saddle with a rider simple and efficient. . The key to reducing stress and worry in horses when training them is to break each task you want to teach a horse down into simple steps and allow the horse to master the simple steps before making them more complex. For example, we need to be able to ride a horse in walk, trot and cantertherefore, it makes sense to ensure that your horse is confident in walk, trot and canter without a rider before adding one! . Groundwork helps with more than just balance and gymnastic strength. During groundwork the horse learns how you communicate with it. It learns to follow the feel of the halter or caversson on its face and for its body to follow that guidance of the rope or line from the ground. This sets the horse up to understand the feel of the reins when you transition to riding the horse. . It also helps develop a relationship between you and the horse. A way of working together. Horses learn to focus on you and feel successful in being able to navigate you. It helps you introduce scary objects, jumps, different obstacles and environments in a way that is easier for the horse. All building the horses trust in you. All these relationship qualities you can then transition into the saddle. . Share, like, comment on this post if you agree and feel passionate about promoting the acceptance of groundwork in our equestrian culture. . My career is promoting good training practices to improve the lives of horses. I focus on helping people help their own horses, because the more people we have out there that can help horses the less horses will be needing help . Thanks for your time, I hope you can see groundwork from a different perspective. . . Like anything, groundwork can be done incorrectly and for the wrong beliefs and reasons. Groundwork should always be done for the purpose of progression. I find that 80% of people stuck at a groundwork stage in a horsemanship program need hands on help as they are doing it incorrectly. The remaining 20% are horses with soundness issues that are experiencing discomfort. Note #2 Yes, a horse only has so many circles it can do in its life before it can be detrimental to its joints. Therefore, groundwork should not be done for the sake of groundwork. It must be done for a specific purpose with a focus on progressing training. See Note #1 above.

11.01.2022 Horses are crooked ...like us they have a preferred side ...they bend one way & are stiff the other Jax is stiff on his right side doesnt want to bend this way so to help him use his body correctly I need to ride him with his crookedness in mind 1. Pic on the left rein I ride him with slight flexion to the right 2. Pic On the long side flexion to the right is maintained but my inside leg is behind the girth to stop his quarters swinging in ...here he is straight 3. Pic If... I dont keep my inside leg on behind the girth he will swing his quarters in & the exercise isnt helping him I want him to use his body correctly teaching him to engage his hind end by travelling straight *** next what I do to help him on the right rein See more

11.01.2022 My thoughts exactly :)

11.01.2022 My hubby & I have a horse stay property at Rawson (north of Moe) in the high country. Our property backs on to state forest with riding out on many tracks to some beautiful spots Im happy to show you tracks if you wish my emphasis is on safety for you & your horse & an enjoyable ride whether you want to walk & take in the scenery or have a canter on a safe track - the choice is yours but I will always take track conditions into account on all rides & advise you accordingly ... The property is on 100 acres mostly bush We have 2 large paddocks at the moment & 6 yards all post & rail fences. On our property we have a few shorter tracks ...& developing more if you want to build confidence in a safe area without the worry of cars or motor bikes etc We also have a covered fire pit for you to join us for a meal & share some yarns ..my hubbys favourite thing to do There is plenty of people accomodation in rawson if you wanted to stay overnight - you have options at the caravan park for cabins & also a lodge that will house a large group with a large kitchen & lounge area I believe all horses benefit from time out on the trail ...my 18h dressage horse loves it & is as sure footed as a mountain goat as hes been doing this since he was first broken in - the benefits for your horse mentally & physically are priceless We are open for bookings on weekends by request We would like to welcome you to our beautiful property & sure you will fall in love with the area like we have over the years Happy horsing H See more

07.01.2022 Super little mare still available such a fun horse perfect manners on the ground & under saddle

05.01.2022 Yes had this experience with Elvis yesterday had me scratching my head with what was going on glad we found a way to help him def outside the box though Louise McFarland

04.01.2022 agree wholeheartedly - dont pull both reins your horse will just learn to pull back

04.01.2022 Must say Im not a great treat feeder but I have a horse in at the moment who really doesnt want to engage with you on the ground - unfortunately I cant put him in with other horses as hes not mine - but I have been feeding him treats to get him to relax & engage with me - you cant build a relationship with your horse if he is only thinking about NOT being with you !! I also think at some point in his life hes been mistreated & not taught theres an answer with release of pressure (which may be the reason hes people shy) & I usually interact with horses like this in the same way I would any horse AT FIRST but I really want to bond with them so if treat feeding works then Ill do it Rules are made to be broken & each horse is different & needs a different approach Happy long weekend Horsing :)

02.01.2022 I received this lovely reference from Tamara who has worked with me I would like to personally recommend Triple H Horse services to anyone who wishes to build a trusting relationship with their horse, based on mutual trust and respect. Helen is the ideal trainer for anyone who is working through issues with their equine, wanting to learn more about their horse and how they think or anyone seeking to further their horsemanship knowledge. Helen was a lifeline to me and my hor...se when we were at a dead end. I was thinking my horse and I werent the right fit and purchasing him was a terrible mistake. My horse was becoming dangerous and frightening me. Helen provided me with the tools and knowledge to move forward with my horse. During my time at Triple H Horses my horse has changed from being an untrusting, green horse who expresses himself in inappropriate ways, to being a calm, confident, safe mount who is thriving and a pleasure to be around. Helen helped my horse and I develop our relationship to overcome my horses behaviour issues and my lack of confidence. Helens approach to horsemanship is far superior than any other trainer I have experienced. Helens training techniques are based on natural horsemanship, liberty and release of pressure. Triple H Horses has a deep understanding of the horses behaviour and mindset. I have seen Helen work with both mine and my friends horse who are extremely different equines. Helen has the ability to adapt and apply different techniques suited to the individual horse, and rider to achieve the best outcome. She understands the persons and horses strengths and weaknesses and addresses both of them during her training. I feel incredibly fortunate to have Triple H Horses assist me with my horse. She was always straightforward and honest with me and generous with her time and attention. Helen is an excellent teacher covering all phases of ridden and ground work, with safety as her number 1 priority. Since working with Helen I have referred my friends and family to her and I will continue to do so. Warm regards, Tamara Lamplugh

01.01.2022 I love this - a big thing in my mind is how we talk about our horses (& ourselves) don't use belittling words on them they are the most amazing creatures to work with - ALWAYS :) "Also, try to stay away from labelling a horse’s behaviour as being good or bad, but instead think of it as the horse telling you how they feel about what’s going on. Remove the judgement, anger, frustration, and disappointment from the situation." Happy horsing
