17.01.2022 Australians will now be able to select non-binary sex as an option for the question about sex recorded at birth in the 2021 Census. For the first time, the census will make available the non-binary sex option. This announcement comes as the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) published new standards for the collection and dissemination of data relating to sex, gender, variations of sex characteristics and sexual orientation.
14.01.2022 Tropical Fruits thinks that pronouns matter. What do grammar hawks say about the singular 'they'? And is it rude to ask people if they go by 'he' or 'she' or 'they' or 'ze'? What pronouns do people use and why?

05.01.2022 Tropical Fruits Fruity Fridays NYD Announcement Tropical Fruits has been working behind the scenes to try and bring you a special edition of Fruity Fridays on New Years Day. Some of you have heard about this and we have been fielding enquiries about what is happening. Unfortunately, in this rapidly changing COVID environment, our venue has had to withdraw on advice from Service NSW and the Australian Hotels Association and will NOT be opening at all on NYD.... Whilst this is frustrating just when we are seeing a relaxation of the restrictions, we totally support our venue partners in reducing their liabilities at this time. We hope they are able to spend some quality time with their families instead. The next Fruity Friday will be held February 5th 2021. But GOOD news! We are still going ahead with our amazing LIVE Fruits with DJ’s Marty, Chip & Amanda Louise on New Years Eve, with a special performance by our very own Foxy Brown-Eye! So why not create your OWN festival venue at your place and have some mates over and have a dance with us - be sure to get your tickets and post photo’s on the event page below... #LIVEFruitsNYE
04.01.2022 Just in case you missed it It’s A Sin the new 5-part series from Russell T. Davies recently premiered on streaming services. The new drama, which follows a group of gay friends trying to navigate their way through London life in the early eighties, launched to rave reviews.... It’s A Sin is loosely inspired by Davies’ own real-life experience as a teenager and sees three 18-year-olds, Ritchie, Roscoe and Colin, ditch their suburban family lives and move to London and rent a flat together, which they dub the ‘Pink Palace’. But as they face a rise in homophobia and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, the friends each find themselves facing their own personal experiences as the deadly virus takes hold. The series explores the prejudice LGBT people faced at the time, and shows how this worsened over the course of the epidemic. Characters deal with being disowned by their families, fearing the loss of their jobs, mortgages and lifestyles, alongside funerals being refused, partners banned from funeral services and patients being detained and isolated against their will. Borrowing its title from Pet Shop Boys’ 1987 single, the It’s A Sin soundtrack includes a faultless selection of queer anthems and ’80s smash hits that take on a new resonance. Though it’s difficult to pluck out highlights from a soundtrack which includes Blondie, Joy Division, Erasure and Culture Club, these have to be the show’s most powerful musical moments, plus the sublime cover of PSB’s It’s A Sin by Years & Years. The cast includes Keely Hawes, Stephen Fry, Neil Patrick Harris and Lydia West, while the lead role of Ritchie is played by actor and pop singer Olly Alexander. It's A Sin is currently streaming on Stan in Australia. Ps. Popcorn and tissues required! #ItsASin
