24.01.2022 There are 4 stages to Gut Healthy Habits and if you adopt this model - It will become easier to develop eating habits that will benefit your gut health Here are the 4 stages to building Gut Healthy Habits... 1 Unconsciously Unhealthy... At this stage your habit is negatively impacting your health, it is happening on auto-pilot AND you have zero knowledge that it is chipping away at your health day by day. 2 Consciously Unhealthy The first stage of breaking a habit - AWARENESS! You are aware of the unhealthy habit and can now take action. 3 Consciously Healthy Taking action and have an effective strategy in forming a healthier habit. At this stage it still requires more energy and willpower into building this habit and not falling back into old habits BUT it is positively influencing your health and you will begin to see minor results. 4 Unconsciously Healthy This is where the magic happens. Fluently making healthy choices that align with your goals, values and have a positive effect on your health and overall well-being. When you have habits at this stage you are in control of your life and things just falls into place but I assure you at an unconscious level you are creating it all. 09.01.2022 Who loves their chocolate and needs something to help their cravings? Dark chocolate/cocoa is one of my go-to’s for curbing sugar cravings and has a list full of health benefits. It is nutritional high in iron, magnesium, copper and fibre which supplies the body with the nutrients that ease and suppress cravings. ... One of the highest anti-oxidant foods available and some studies support its use in having neuroprotective effects which has an influence on brain function and cognitive motor control. (PMID: 22775434) Lastly - the polyphenols contained in cocoa has an amazing prebiotic effect on our happy gut microbes promoting the growth of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium which play a key role in fighting off pathogenic bacteria overgrowth and also supporting the immune system with its anti-inflammatory properties reducing the risk of serious illness and disease. (PMID: 32605083) So all in all - dark chocolate/cocoa can be good! So how much? Well that’s where you need to do some figures. My rule of thumb is to aim for 70% or higher - the higher % the more beneficial but more bitter and less sweeter it is. I would also stick to about 30-50g servings. If you have a sugar addiction to any degree - you can even ease into it by starting off half and half, and over time slowly reducing milk chocolate quantity.
