25.01.2022 Ultra-processed foods use cheap, low nutrition, often GM, ingredients - starches, vege oils, fat, salt and sugars with fake colours, flavours and emulsifiers to... make the sludge look, smell and taste ok. Such so-called foods wreck health, yet people eat more than before, driven by food addictions, poverty and global Big Food's aggressive marketing and lobbying in ever more places. Some Latin American countries are calling a halt on junk foods. so should we. https://theconversation.com/the-rise-of-ultra-processed-foo Research paper https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/7/1955 See more

21.01.2022 Local and diverse food systems work best when they have community infrastructure and community ownership. Food Connect has been building their community-based e...nterprise in Brisbane for 15 years, and last year established the first community-owned food hub in Australia. We're catching up with Rob and Emma-Kate next week 12 August for our next Solidarity Session, to talk about the Food Connect model and the importance of community-owned supply chains. This is so relevant right now as parts of Australia continue to grapple with the problems of centralised, corporate-owned, industrialised supply chains. Come along and find out more about how Food Connect has achieved this, and what community-owned supply chains could look like in your community. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/115315455632

13.01.2022 A US District Court in California rules that when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved plans to grow and commercialize GM salmon in the USA it ignore...d the full extent of serious environmental impacts, nationally and globally. The court said this violated the National Environmental Policy Act. The FDA’s unilateral decision that GM salmon could not affect highly-endangered, wild Atlantic salmon was also wrong and violated the Endangered Species Act. FDA must now reanalyze the full impacts of a GM salmon escape into the wild. https://www.centerforfoodsafety.org//2020-10-05-ecf-285--o See more

04.01.2022 The global pandemic has exposed the flaws in our current highly concentrated, inequitable, industrial food system.
