25.01.2022 With the return of sport starting to commence after COVID-19 restrictions, encouraging children to participate is a great way to ensure they reach the below benefits. However it’s important that they return gradually to reduce the risk of injury: https://bit.ly/3nnWb6W If you have any questions about frequency of physical activity or return to sport, please give us a call on 9783 9990 to book an appointment with one of our Exercise Physiologists.

23.01.2022 Children often need snacks between meals to keep them energised and prevent them from getting over hungry. Snacks are also important to ensure your child is meeting all their nutrient requirements. However, with this in mind, what snacks should you be providing and how many snacks do they need?: https://bit.ly/2HRD3yP If you have any questions or are concerned about your childs eating, call us on 97839990 to book an appointment with our Dietitian, Melinda Braithwaite

22.01.2022 This year we announced the Michelle Blake Scholarship Awards at the TSIC Christmas Celebrations. We usually like to celebrate in the middle of the year, however 2020 got in the way! Michelle Blake Scholarship award criteria.... -Demonstrate excellence in Physiotherapy -Create and foster a positive, uplifting work environment -Lead by example and inspire others to strive for best practice -Foster the spirit on inclusion and be generous with knowledge and experience -Represent the best of TSIC values and service -Demonstrate dedicated commitment to ongoing learning, education and self-development In the very special year that was we could not split this year’s recipients and were thrilled to announce Josh Ferguson and Lachie Heron as joint winners in 2020. In a year that has been challenging both of these people stepped up and lead by example, was supportive of colleagues both in the physio department and the wider clinic while balancing their own families and children. Thank you both for all that you do and bring to TSIC. Pippa Hanson

21.01.2022 As the Summer of Tennis begins, it’s important to look after your body pre and post-match to decrease the risk of injury. As tennis involves complex movement patterns to execute each shot, using a combination of speed, agility and power as some of these examples, it is important that the body is prepared to perform efficiently and correctly: https://bit.ly/38f0I6X

19.01.2022 Exercise Physiologist Jesse performing a serratus anterior exercise to improve scapula (shoulder blade) stability/control. ‘Scapula winging’ indicates weak serratus anterior muscle which can lead to shoulder injuries such as subacromial impingement/bursitis, rotator cuff tendinitis and also can be associated with neck pain. Scapula winging looks like your shoulder blades are sticking out. If this relates to you, come in and see our Exercise Physiology team for an exercise program to prevent associated injuries! https://www.tsic.com.au/physio-booking-online

19.01.2022 Do you ever wonder how you should be ordering your strength exercises? A recently-published meta-analysis by Nunes et al. (2020) suggests that exercises performed at the beginning of a strength session may produce greater strength increases than those performed later in a session. Interestingly, exercise order did not seem to matter for hypertrophy. - So what is the takeaway? If you are training for strength and have particular muscle groups that take priority, it may be beneficial doing these exercises at the beginning of your session. If you don't have any obvious priorities, then rotating the order from session to session may be beneficial for maximising outcomes. However if you are training for hypertrophy, don't stress too much about order. #TSICPeninsula

Over time, your body will undertake an acclimation process and adapt to the demands of training in the heat (e.g. increased sweat rate, decreased electrolyte loss and higher blood volume). However, it's important to take some precautions to ensure you don't fall victim to a heat-related illness. - Stay hydrated Wear sunscreen Try to exercise outside of the hottest period of the day...
