22.01.2022 How valuable is your time on a scale from 1 to 10? How many hats do you wear in your business? . Are you the one who looks after: the wheeling and dealings of your potential clients? your current clients?... your previous clients? your team? your team's schedule and roster? things running on time? making sure your next job is lined up and ready to go? your accounts? Your incoming invoices? Invoices for your clients? making sure you have enough photos to post online? your social media posts are on point? your equipment? Have you got enough stock? Have you got the right tools? Will it come in on time for that client? making sure everyone on your team is looking and feeling on the same page? 21.01.2022 What's important to you is important to me. Because building a relationship with you is important to us. A lot of our clients are repeat clients. I'll be honest with you, if you took a look into our database, for a business that has been operating for over 18 years, we actually don't have a tonne of clients because a majority of our clients have been coming to us for years. Some for as long as we've been around and some for as long as they've been in business. And that's th...e great thing about being in business that's been around this long, you attract businesses that have been around for a long time too and that my friend is what a long term relationship looks like. I've watched business owners marry their partners, witnessed weddings and babies turn into teenagers. Heck, I've seen the whole family grow up and that's the best kind of clients/friends to have. 19.01.2022 Can anyone guess how many stitches are required for this logo? I'll give you some hints: the logo is slightly bigger than the normal pocket size. there are 5 different colours that make up this design.... there are 17 different layers/parts to this logo I'd you guessed 16,853 stitches, you would be correct! That's 16,853 times the needle passes through the garment and 16,853 times that it passes through the material. This is one of the reasons why we pride ourselves on offering quality material, quality garments when it comes to our work. We're all in business for the long haul so when you get quoted something that may be slightly more expensive from us, here's some food for thought: check out your design- how many stitches are required to complete your logo. think about the garments that you want embroidery work done on think about the craftsmanship this is required. Would you compromise quality over price? I'll be honest, and I know my clients can vouch for me when I say this, we may not be the cheapest but we know everytime we put your uniforms together for you and your team, quality work is number priority. 18.01.2022 It's been a little while we've been practicing self isolation here in our household and keeping our little one at home which means less for social media and posting. We're still running as normal because we're lucky with the way our business is set up. How many of you have been affected by the craziness of the world? 17.01.2022 Show me your logo first. That's one of the first things I ask you when you send me an enquiry about getting uniforms done for you and your team. Most people think that it's the garment that we chat about first when it comes to uniforms. Yes, that's important too but that's really the easy part.... The most important thing is your logo/design because that will help determine what technique we decide to use to recreate your vision. The second most important thing I ask is about quantities because that contributes to what technique we use to fulfill your order. And then finally its about the style and sourcing styles that fit your budget. Remember, our job is not to offer you discounts. My role is to help you find your style with the budget that you have. 17.01.2022 Did you read my last post? . Following on my last post, printing is necessary when: You've got too much detail in your logo that is difficult to replicate with embroidery. You're needing a larger design that can't be made with embroidery.... Large volumes that best serve the screen printing/digital print look. . You see, embroidery is stitch work right. Its made up of thousands of tiny stitches that create a design or logo. . Let's use reason number from before as an example- you know the one about having a larger design. I personally wouldn't recommend embroidery because the garment can becomes stiff and tight. Remember the more stitches there are, the stiffer the logo. . So this is when I would recommend printing. . So there are different types of printing that are available on the market. DTG prints, vinyl prints and screen printing to name a few. . I prefer to recommend different types of printing depending on: the design the number of colours the quantities you're needing If you've got an intricate design or have a design that has multiple colours, I would recommend DTG printing or vinyl printing. . If you've got a design that uses lets say 1-3 colours and not so detailed in the matrix of the design then I would recommend vinyl printing or screen printing. . Quantities plays an important part in the choice of printing that I offer so I always ask this question. . 17.01.2022 What do you think the number one question I get asked by potential clients would be? Yep, you guessed it! PRICE! ... Now I'm not one to shy away from talking about price. It's the biggest elephant in any business owner's room. PSA (Public Service Announcement): I'm not the cheapest embroiderer out there but what I can tell you is that I'm genuinely passionate about what we do and we do it extremely well. The thing is, there are so many different things to factor in when you message me with "price please". Let me break it down for you: what does your logo look like- a simple logo with text vs a logo with large areas of stitching will warrant different pricing structures. screen printing vs htv printing vs embroidery have different pricing and set up fees. different types of shirts/jackets have their own pricing structure. Good, great, premium. embroidery on the front and back vs front only vs back only how many different colours in your logo (doesn't affect embroidery as much) So, when you're requesting a simple "price" or "quote", just remember, its not just a simple one size fit all for everyone! If you've worked with me before, you'll appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into what I do and best of all, you know you're talking to a human with experience in not just embroidery but sales and marketing as well. Can you believe we're nearing the end of the second part of 2020 And I must say, of all the years being in business, this year has been the year that we've done the most in face masks. With so many different masks available how do you choose? We've tested a fair few and we've been very impressed with Stormtech's facemasks.... The three things that are important to me when I'm wearing a mask are: comfort breathability lightweight As you guys know, sometimes I wear glasses so finding a mask that allows me to wear my glasses and mask comfortably is very important. 14.01.2022 Do you wash twice a week? I mean WASH YOUR CLOTHES not your body you should be washing your body at least once a DAY and if you're not, please do for hygiene purposes! If you're working 5 to 6 days a week you need AT LEAST 5-6 shirts. I say at least because if you're out and about or your work requires you to be outdoors, PLEASE be mindful of those around you if don't have enough clothes to rotate.... An extra shirt or two will SAVE your business. I guarantee you that if you're in fresh clothes and smell decent, your clients will welcome you. If you aren't smelling decent or if your clothes are filth/ smell like wet dog, best to get in touch with me ASAP. I won't wash your clothes for you (I'm not your cleaner) BUT I can help you update your uniforms and suggest the right number. Ever heard of a client who told you you didn't smell that great? 09.01.2022 *ah hem* hi guys! Thought it was about time I did a proper introduction! My name is Sussan and I'm the person behind all these posts and the person you speak with when it comes to all things Tu Embroider. Tu Embroider started many many years ago while I was still in high school and was run by my mumma. Her name is Tu hence the name Tu Embroider and a play on words and the verb 'to embroider'. I took over the family business officially two or so years ago but you know, g...rowing up in an Asian family, you kind of are thrown in and working from a young age. Prior to taking over this gig, I was in corporate in healthcare/sales/marketing. So, it's always been my jam to do what I do. I've always been passionate about design so I really enjoy the creative side of this business. I'm a simple kida girl, you'll catch me in t-shirt and trackies most days a massive change to corporate wear all day everyday for the last 15 years. 07.01.2022 EMBROIDERY ON UNIFORMS IS EXPENSIVE. I get a lot of people asking me about printing and if we do it. And when I ask what is the reason for wanting printing done, most people say that printing is cheaper and that's why they opt for printing instead. Here's a fun fact. Did you know that embroidery and printing are about the same price? Printing if done is short batches can sometimes work out to be a little more expensive.... Here's a few reasons why I would suggest embroidery instead: they lasts longer and in most cases, normally outlast your garments. they don't fade or wash out like screen printing. they don't peel off and crack over time like vinyl printing. Of course, screen printing, vinyl printing and digital printing have a place in the realm of uniforms. For example: Too much detail in your logo that is difficult to replicate with embroidery. You're needing a larger design that can't be made with embroidery. Large volumes that best serve the screen printing/digital print look. Since posting my short video I've had numerous people reach out and ask me what I will be doing differently especially as a small business owner. We're lucky that our business model doesn't have to change too much but i can understand that for some of you guys out there, it's an overwhelming time, it can make you anxious, it can cause you to have sleepless nig...hts and you have such an obligation to so many people (your family, your business partners, your employees, your clients and of course those people who are linked to them). . . With so many businesses needing to pivot, what plans have you put into motion? Here are some ideas that you can implement within your business: . updated your website lately? Wait have you got one? in the catering industry? Thought about meal plans to cater for the time poor people? in the beauty industry? If you've always wanted to teach, thought about writing up a program to teach or educate? are you a plumber? Share some videos about how to change a washer in the tap for the single parents or young teens needing to step up in the house. are you an electrician? Write up a check list for people that are thinking of building a house or a check list of what to look out for to help people to save money on their electricity bills. . . Whatever the industry you're in, pivoting and adapting is key! If you've scoffed and smirked out ZERO, then you my friend, you need to start casting your net a little wider The thing is, if you've been getting work purely from referrals from family and friends, that's fantastic but those jobs will only get you so far. ... Imagine if you spent money investing in your business and marketed to those 'big ticket' clients. What would that mean for you and your business? Think 5 little jobs = 1 big ticket client. Which would you prefer? And if you're casting your net wider, you need to be dressing and looking the part because FIRST IMPRESSIONS IS EVERYTHING! 04.01.2022 Remember our last post which we digitized? Here's a photo of the final version embroidered onto garments! Often people ask us how close can you get our logos to match your logos and the answer is our goal is to match it as closely as possible. Embroidery is different to screen printing or HTV printing because a lot of the work is done by eye and requires really good hand eye coordination. No, we don't embroidery your garments by hand but the artwork is redesigned by hand on ...our software. With the end of January looming, have you got your team wear sorted? 04.01.2022 Let's have an honest conversation my fellow business owners. How often do you hear a customer complain and say "You're too expensive!" How do you normally respond to this crazy accusation?!... I can say hand on heart , that I am not the cheapest on the market, heck, I don't care to be nor do I want to be! Let you in on a secret. We may not be the cheapest on the market but I like to think that I add value to you and your business when we engage in conversation. I'd like to think that when we work together, our business relationship is based on integrity, honesty and fairness. Because at the end of the day, regardless if we're the most expensive, if someone asked you who did your uniforms and you said Sussan from Tu Embroider, I'd like to think that you were happy not only with your uniforms but with the service you received from us. 02.01.2022 Do you have a business card? How often do you get asked this but find yourself too embarrassed to whip out your wallet with your card because: 1. It's squashed in there somewhere. 2. You have 50 million receipts that might fall out if you do.... 3. Your business cards are stuck together with dirt and dust from working (obviously no fault of your own). 4. The corners of your business cards look like the dog chewed them If you're reading and are feeling what I'm saying, I've got a solution for you. Tell me, who do you know that HAS a mobile phone? Better yet, who here has a mobile phone with a camera ? The easiest and best way to advertise your business branding is by having all your details on the back of your work uniform. All you need to do when a potential client asks you for a business card is get them to whip out their mobiles and snap a photo. 02.01.2022 Did you know there are a whole variety of threads that are available on the market? Thread is a finicky thing. Thin and flimsy to hold as a single strand but when banded together, even if you're the strongest person in your gym, its hard to break. Super underrated right?... Think of it this way, if you're into fishing, thread quality is like fishing line You can get average line like Jervis Walker (nothing wrong with it) or you can get high end fishing line like Daiwa or Finns. What's important is that thread wears down over time but good quality thread can usually outlast the shirt itself. My clients often ask me if embroidery thread colour fades over time? I can't speak for others but we use high end quality thread that has been pre-treated which means that it's already gone through the ringer a few times before being spun onto the cone for selling so the chances of the thread fading is unlikely. Having said that, with all things garments, make sure you're following washing instructions and you should be right! The next time you check out pricing and are comparing products think about wearability of the garment, ROI on the work gear (how many wears you get out of it) and quality of the products getting used. 02.01.2022 Sussan or Tu? I knowwww I get called Tu ALL THE TIME So today I wanted to re-introduce myself and how we came about the name Tu Embroider. Tu is actually my Mumma's name and a very long time ago, we set this business up and called it Tu Embroider. 3 reasons: Tu is my Mumma's name.... It was a play on the verb 'to embroider'- obviously pronounced the same way. Well, embroider because that's what we do and that's our bread and butter. The next question I get asked is is Sussan your real name? Like you know, your real real name?? Yes, Sussan is my real real name. Let me know if you need me to produce my birth certificate. I often get called Tu but heck, I don't mind. Whatever makes you happy! My Mumma's taught me everything I know about running a business with her incredible work ethics.
