23.01.2022 After the last fire season, the forced ‘COVID break’ was welcomed, but summer will be upon us again before long! With restrictions beginning to ease, we are now able to get back to training. Yesterday we conducted small groups of our new members to run over the basics. Socially distancing of course. ... Thanks to Pete, Damo, Ben, Matt and Mark for the day!

23.01.2022 If you’re around Terrey Hills today, slow down along Mona Vale Rd. The first half of the JJ Melbourne Hills Reserve HR is under way. Working off a main road like this can be hazardous for firefighters, so please heed warnings and watch out.

23.01.2022 On Saturday we recognised our firefighters who contributed to last seasons efforts with the Premiere's citation presentation. We then mixed it in with a socially distanced Christmas party! Was great to get the whole Brigade together along with our families.

22.01.2022 We can all make a difference...

22.01.2022 AGM done for 2020 in true Covid fashion. Very honoured to be voted in as Captain. Congrats to Rich standing as President again this year and Ben Hallett as SDC. And to all the field officers elected again. ... John Pritch

21.01.2022 Hazard Reduction Tumble had two crew out today at the Nandi Road HR in Frenchs Forest.

19.01.2022 BREAKING An intense low-pressure system is forecast to affect the coast between Port Stephens and Sydney overnight tonight. Damaging winds and localis...ed heavy rainfall totals of 100-300mm are currently being predicted. Waterspouts are also a possibility with this type of system. High Spring tides are also affecting the coastline around 10:18pm and 10:35am. Such intense rainfall is likely to lead to flash flooding. The many areas prone to flooding including but not limited to known hotspots such as Newcastle, Wallsend, Gosford, Warringah and Narrabeen. If you know people in these areas whose houses have been affected by flash flooding in the past, please contact them and strongly suggest that that stay somewhere else tonight. 19.01.2022 Our Cat 1 was part of the Narrabeen Sports Academy Hazard Reduction today. An easy 3ha burn with two of our newbies getting some time in the smoke.

15.01.2022 Six weeks In 6 weeks the official start of the bushfire season is due to commence around our area (traditionally the start of October), with some areas in Region North already in their bushfire danger period. Like many brigades we’ve been working through our tankers and equipment to bringing them up to standard after the continuous use of last season. Tumble1 was back in Station last week after a good month away for mechanical and equipment repairs and Tumble7 should be back... in Station shortly. This activity has been greatly assisted by our District Office who have been busy as ever getting our fleet up to scratch. Our members have also been improving their qualifications and refreshing skills over the past few months. Driver training; village and advantaged firefighter; crew leader and other specialist skills such as Arduous Firefighter. We’ve also welcomed 14 newly qualified BF members into the Tumble ranks with a few more progressing through their training. This training effort has been significant by both instructor and student alike. We’ve been fortunate to access the Rural Fire Service Gift and Donations Fund and this will see additional firefighting equipment added to the tankers and PC - items over and above that issued by the service. We were also the recipient of some very generous donations from members of the public and businesses, with those funds directed to equipment such as iPads with Topo maps so we can better navigate to properties and additional chainsaw equipment for the tankers as well as replenishing emergency food supplies for the tankers. So with all our activity to get ready for the bushfire season we would like to ask that you do the same, and prepare your property and update your bushfire survival plan. Photos are of a recent duty day with portable pump refresher training, and a group of 5 of our Arduous Firefighters after completing their pack test.

14.01.2022 Commencing in August 2019 for our district and finishing in early February 2020 with local flooding this will be a bushfire season to remember. As we had no significant fire in our local area we spent the season traveling to everyone else’s; seeing some of the worst conditions faced, from the north of the state to the south and most points in between. Thank you to our members and their family, friends and employers who supported these efforts and to the dozens and dozens of... towns and local brigades and other agencies who worked with us as we traveled the state as part of the countless strike teams deployed. As we all face into the COVID19 crisis let’s all remember how we supported each other as a community and how much compassion and care was shown. As a Brigade we are adapting to the new normal and working to maintain operational readiness in anticipation of the coming season some 3 to 4 months away.

12.01.2022 Additional Equipment The Brigade has successfully drawn on some of the very generous donated funds the public made to the NSW RFS Brigades Donation Fund which received millions. Pictured are two specialist live reel branches for our tankers and eFlares which will assist with working on roads. We have additional radios on the way and updated lighting for the tankers amongst other items. ... Thank you to those who contributed to the fund. These items will make a difference this year and beyond.

11.01.2022 Wherever you are at this wonderful time in this wonderful country, we hope you’re surrounded by love and laughter. After a year unlike any other we thank you for your ongoing support and friendship. Sending our warmest wishes to you your family and friends from all of us at TumbleDownDick Brigade. Happy New Year. May 2021 bring you health and happiness.

09.01.2022 The RFS and NRMA have teamed up to produce a series of new awareness commercials before the upcoming summer. These are to encourage the community to set aside the first saturday of each month to prepare your home and family. The bushfire danger period is just around the corner so the time to act is NOW.... What are you doing this Saturday? Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about preparing your home or fire plan. https://youtu.be/4V1jmZHJgrg

09.01.2022 Today we had both trucks operational on the Resolute HR. Was a successful day reducing fuel loadings preparing for summer.

04.01.2022 Today marks International Volunteers day. We are often recognised when there is smoke in the air. But fact is, volunteers from the RFS are on duty every day of the year either attending to incidents of fire, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents or storm relief. We also recognise all the other volunteer organisations out there such as the SES, Surf Life Saving and Rotary to name a few. If you spot any volunteers this weekend out in the community, give them a wave!

03.01.2022 Total Fire Ban declared for most of the state including the Sydney Basin tomorrow. It’s the first of the season. Are you prepared? Do you know where you’ll go if a fire starts near you? Its not to late to prepare a plan tonight.

02.01.2022 Rotary Raffle cancelled As many would know, for more than 20 years we have partners with Rotary to run a raffle that has assisted with fundraising efforts for the brigade. Rotary have advised that this year the raffle has been cancelled. We sold a number of tickets mid last year before we got completely engaged in the bushfire situation that kicked off in August. ... If you would like your money back please send us a direct message with your ticket numbers, name, address and phone and we will reimburse you less the cost of postage. Alternately the monies will be used for general brigade management as originally intended by the fundraising. Thanks for your understanding.

01.01.2022 Ready. Set. Go. This years AGM delayed but all set to go this morning.
