24.01.2022 Exam Tip #3: Sleep is just as important It’s actually quite surprising to hear how many students sacrifice sleep to study for an exam. Getting less than a few hours of sleep or even pulling an all-nighter is detrimental to your health and will definitely affect how you perform in an exam. You need sleep to allow your brain to function at it’s maximum capacity and you want it to be doing so especially in an exam. Here are some ways to avoid sacrificing sleep to prepare fo...r an exam: - Plan out your weeks leading up the exam to make sure that you will be prepared. Refer to Study Tip #1 - Write organised and concise notes so that you don’t waste time flipping through a textbook to find something - Practice early and ask questions if you need help. Don’t leave it until the last minute. Sleep is actually a lot more important than most people think, so make sure you get enough sleep, so you can be well rested and prepared to be your best for the exam. Getting enough sleep can be just as important as studying for an exam.

16.01.2022 Exam tip #2: Test yourself Being in a test environment is going to be different from doing your homework or study environment. Students need to be able to practice doing past exams under proper test conditions. So when practicing for your next test you should:... 1. Time yourself. Set an alarm so you can gauge how long it takes you to finish an exam) 2. Do the test in a quiet and isolated area without any distractions. Refer to my Study Tip #2 on how to drop the distractions. 3. No cheating. Make sure that there aren’t any answers lying around or papers that wouldn’t be allowed in an exam. By doing this you’ll gain accustomed to what it’ll be like to be doing a test under time pressure and proper test conditions, helping you prepare for the HSC. Test yourself and you’ll be surprised how easy it can get

13.01.2022 Happy School Holidays Everyone! Although you have a 2 week break, just remember that: You don’t get much done if you only work in the days when you feel like it. So while you enjoy this two week, make sure that you’re still following the study tips so you can stay ahead of school.

08.01.2022 Study Tip #3: Just give it a go The one thing that I see in all students is that they don’t even attempt a question when they think it’s tough. They generally freeze and tend to leave it blank. When tackling a tough question, it can actually be easier than you think. Here are some steps that you should try:... 1. Don’t be afraid of making a mistake. If you have an idea or think it won’t work, just try it anyways. Majority of the time, you’ll learn something new from it. 2. It generally is something that you’ve done before. You’ve learnt the fundamentals and that’s all that you need to answer the questions. Go through the steps that you’ve learnt and the answer will come naturally. 3. Try and try again. Don’t give up after one attempt, the more you work on it the higher chance you have at getting the answer. You need to realise that when you’re studying or practicing questions, that it isn’t an exam, you have unlimited attempts at it, so why not use it. Success does not consist in making mistakes BUT in never making the same mistakes twice.

05.01.2022 Study Tip #2: "Drop The Distractions" When studying for a test or even doing your homework, it is so easy to get distracted by your phone, computer, tv, or even others around you. Technology has made it so much easier to get distracted from doing the things that are more important to us and dragging us away from our goals. So here are a few ways to not get distracted when you're trying to study or do your homework:... 1. Turn your phone on do not disturb and put it in a place that isn't easily accessible 2. Turn off your computer to make sure that you don't get the urge to go on it 3. If there are others around you, let everyone know that you are studying and that you don't want to be disturb for a certain period of time. Finally, if these don't work, move to a different location where you are in a quiet, isolated area without any technological distractions around you. Don’t let distractions get in the way of you achieving your goals

03.01.2022 Exam Tip #1: It is not a race. When it comes to an exam, students are constantly worried about not finishing the test in time. This applies unnecessary pressure and causes them to mind blank throughout an exam. A test isn’t about how fast you can complete it, but it is about how many questions you can answer correctly. There is no point in answering all of the questions and finishing on time, if all of the questions you answer are incorrect.... So take your time, read the questions carefully and remind yourself, that it isn't a race. "If you don't have time to do it right. When will you have time to do it over?"

01.01.2022 Study Tip #1: Plan out your week to practice. I often hear students saying: I didn’t have any time to do work. The issue here isn’t that they didn’t have time to do work, but they didn’t PLAN to do work. Finding just 30 minutes a day, either after school or before school shouldn’t be impossible. To put it into perspective, an average TV-show runs for about 30 minutes. What if, instead of planning to watch our favourite TV-show after school, we plan to use those 30 minutes... to practice what you have just learnt at school today? Planning time during the week to practice is practicing to achieve better results. The difference between you and those with better marks is PRACTICE. A lot of it
