20.01.2022 Update on Australia's tallest tree, the 100 metre-tall 'Centurion' in Tasmania. These images were taken on the 22nd Feb 2019, about a week after wildfire burnt ...the tree. Unlike most eucalypt species, Eucalyptus regnans is fire-sensitive and does not reshoot after fire. Although the tree still stands, the trunk was scorched and is likely to kill the thin cambium (live bark) layer, and thus the whole tree. The tree went several hundred years without fire, and was an emergent in temperate rainforest. See more
