21.01.2022 An emergency team were flown into Kosciuszko National Park recently to assess the damage bushfires had caused to custom-built enclosures housing critically endangered Southern Corroboree Frogs. This included Taronga’s Michael McFadden, who is the Supervisor of Taronga’s Herpetofauna Division and has been leading Taronga’s Corroboree Frog breeding program since 2006. Michael was joined by officers from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Serviceand Department of Planning, Industry... and Environment for this important mission. Three out of four of the disease-free enclosure sites in Kosciuszko were found to have been burnt. Michael held little hope for the frogs within the enclosures, but, remarkably, around one-third of the vital population survived. 12.01.2022 We’re so proud of how the Taronga community has come together to support wildlife during the recent times of crisis. Our vets and veterinary nurses have been helping on the frontline and, as you can imagine, the work isn’t for the fainthearted. One of our vets, Kimberley Vinette Herrin, spent working at an RSPCA wildlife clinic in Bairnsdale, Victoria. During her week there Kimberley treated koalas injured in the bushfires. We caught up with Kimberley this week to see how she... is feeling after this intense experience. We can’t thank her and all of our hospital and keeping teams at Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoo enough for all that they do for wildlife.
