01.01.2022 CNN NAMES EGYPT AMONG TOP 21 PLACES TO GO IN 2021 Is there a year where we're NOT the place to go? Since our inception we've been tooting our own horns, not jus...t about classic sights like the Pyramids or our many temples, but to just about everything else Egypt has to offer, from ecolodges and salt lake retreats at the Siwa Oasis, to beach parties in Sahel, to the nightlife in Cairo, to the highly anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. But when it comes to the aftermath of 2020 and its gross younger brother, 2021, it's understandable that tourists have doubts about where they should visit. So it's nice to have some validation from no less than CNN, who have named Egypt among their '21 Places to Go in 2021'. "Egypt's supply of ancient wonders is seemingly limitless, and 2021 may be just the year to show them all off to a world starved for cultural discovery," CNN wrote. "Many of Egypt's most celebrated artifacts are finally expected to get a gleaming new home this year at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) close to the site of the Pyramids of Giza." They really like our treasure trove of antiquities. In fact, that's almost entirely what they talked about. Who could blame them? With the newly-discovered Saqqara sarcophagi being transferred to the GEM, 2020 has drummed up a lot of excitement for Egypt's freshly uncovered history. And even without them, the GEM itself is going to be a huge draw, not just because it’s practically the biggest museum dedicated to a single civilization ever, but because of everything that’s going on around it - from the hotels and tourist centres in its immediate vicinity, to the way it will serve as a hub to Egypt’s other wonders. This is all anticipatory, of course - but what else is a new year for besides hyping yourself up for the months to come?
