22.01.2022 From humble beginnings to a Nationally recognised festival. We are very proud to announce that the Island Whale Festival is the winner of the Small Events category of the Australian Event Awards and Symposium. What an achievement!!! In 2016 with the help of ifaw, the Two Bays Whale Project, Wildlife Coast Cruises and Dolphin Research Institute founded the Winter Whale Festival. This small event hosted around 300 people for whale spotting, movie screening and presentations. F...our years on and under the management of Destination Phillip Island - regional tourism board industry news we now attract around 10,000 people over the three day event! This is an incredible example of how collaboration and good planning can achieve excellent results. These achievements do not come from individual efforts but rather great teams of passionate and enthusiastic people with support from generous sponsors. Well done to all involved!!!!

21.01.2022 With the southern migration of humpback whales now well underway in Victoria, new opportunities for data collection have presented. Citizen scientist Mikayla Imrie snapped these two new additions to the Victorian humpback whale catalogue. Mikayala was onboard with Wildlife Coast Cruises on a Wilsons Promontory whale watch when she photographed the newly added VIC_0142 and VIC_0143. Thanks Mikayla!!!! Wildlife Coast Cruises run one of the most spectacular whale watch tours ava...ilable on the east coast. If you're lucky enough to reside in an area where you're able to get to Port Welshpool, why not book on for one of these amazing trips at https://www.wildlifecoastcruises.com.au//wilsons-prom-wha/ #whalesvictoria #citizenscience See more

Remarkably, like all of Allen's contributions, these images were taken from land at Cape Nelson, near Portland! Thanks Allen! #whalesvictoria #citizenscience
