24.01.2022 At last, the homelessness figures from the 2016 census have been released and they paint a grim picture. Homelessness rose by 14 per cent between the 2011 and 2016 censuses with migrants, the under-25s and Indigenous people are over-represented among people without a permanent home. 19.01.2022 Happy International Women's Day! Admittedly, I'm a bit late for Australia but just in time for the northern hemisphere! I hope #IWD2018 is a chance for everyone to reflect on and celebrate the progress of women so far and focus on future goals. Almost half of Australia's homeless people are women. We can change this and need to continue understanding and removing the barriers to housing. #endhomelessness #international #womens #day #housingfirst #youarenotalone

16.01.2022 If you know of someone who is homeless this service matches people with elderly home owners who do not want to leave their homes and move into a Aged Care home ...or facility. The Wesley Central Mission matches people who could co-habitat The homeless person gets free rent in exchange for.a set amount of work (hrs) on a weekly basis. No personal care is involved. If that is needed a qualified person comes into the home to do that. It could be shopping, gardening, cleaning The duties are agreed upon and the Wesley Worker who matched you is always available for any issues that might arise. There are people who study and those who have a paid job (that takes them out of the house) in the home-share program. I have told a few people about this and it has worked out well for them. Here are the details. See more

13.01.2022 Proud Wiradjuri man Haidarr Jones, 24, wouldn't be where he is today without the help of Tirkandi Inaburra Cultural and Development Centre. He overcame the big obstacles of poverty and homelessness to gain life skills, self-respect, and cultural and mainstream education. Mr Jones once thought jail was his only destination but he's now flourishing as a cameraman in ABC's Indigneous Traineeship. This is his story. #endhomelessness #youarenotalone #alwayswas #alwayswillbe

04.01.2022 Michael Rogers is the brave man who rammed Hassan Khalif Shire Ali with a trolley to stop him from hurting people in Bourke Street Melbourne on Friday afternoon (9 November). Michael happens to be homeless. His name isn't ''trolley man''. Any rookie journalist will tell you that finding out players' names, and spelling them correctly, in a news story is paramount. In the chaos of Friday, it's understandable that Michael's real name was not easy to find but, in these situation...s, a person would normally be referred to as ''an unidentified man'' until their name is known. Even the attacker, Hassan Khalif Shire Ali, was afforded this dignity. So hats off to Michael. I'm not surprised that you helped out. Homeless persons are often more capable of compassion than the people who ignore them on the street everyday. #michaelrogers #endhomelessness #youarenotalone See more
