18.01.2022 LICENSING MATTERS! Did you know that it is illegal to hire guards for your premises unless they are licenced by the Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED) - NSW? Security Officers must hold either a Class 1 or class 2 licence & must hold their own Master licence in order to work for you directly. ... Without a Master licence these guards may only work for a company / on behalf of a company holding a Master Licence and cannot work directly for a non-Master licence holder in a security capacity. It is also illegal as a Security Provider / Master licence holder, to hire Unlicensed personnel. If you are a company seeking Security Services, please be aware of the following: Section 36 of the Security Industry Act 1997 (the Act) requires Class 1 and Class 2 licence holders to wear their licence, so that it is clearly visible, at all times while performing security activities. To be clearly visible, a licence must be: attached to the licensee’s outer clothing; worn at or above the level of the licensee’s waist; worn at the front or side of the licensee’s body; attached with the front face of the licence clearly visible to a person standing in front of the licensee; and not covered by any object or material The regulation of the security industry seeks to ensure that the community can place trust in the industry by excluding unsuitable operators through measures such as mandatory fingerprinting, citizenship and residency requirements, criminal and other background checks, etc. Therefore, it is important that any guard reporting for duty without a visible licence or unable to produce a licence, be reported to the company who supplied them immediately, as it is illegal for them to work without it. This will take place over the next 48 hours. Supermarkets, petrol stations, pharmacies, convenience stores, freight and logistics and home delivery will be among the services that will REMAIN OPEN. Schools will remain open tomorrow, although there will be further information regarding this released in the morning. Further details to follow. We will keep you updated as these changes occur.
