19.04.2022 From SES. Issued Friday 13th Good Morning, This will be a pretty short email.... More rain occurred last night with Numinbah getting 131mm and Hopkins Creek with 104mm. More rain is forecast and if you look further north into QLD there is a big band of rain to the south of Gympie that may drift south towards us in the Tweed. If that does happen, with our wet catchments we’ll experience flash flooding. Hopefully it will drift off to the west of us, but that is something that we will need to keep an eye on. The Oxley at Tyalgum Bridge and at Eungella have experienced sharp rises due to that upper catchment rain this morning. An area to be aware of is Boat Harbour on the Rous River. If Numinbah Road at Boat Harbour gets flooded (not saying it will, but you need to be aware of this possibility) road access to Chillingham AND Tyalgum to Murwillumbah will be cut, since Tyalgum Road is still closed due to the past landslip. What’s your plan if Numinbah Road at Boat Harbour gets cut? We’re getting reports of a few trees down blocking roads. Be very careful driving; slippery roads, debris, landslips and trees down adds to the risk of being on the road. Combine that with rain and flooded roads/causeways makes for an interesting motoring experience! This weather is very dynamic and can change rapidly, with little warning. A perfect ornamental shade tree as well as an incredible food source yielding literally tons of nutritious fruit, high in protein, vitamins and minerals. A popular meat alternative amongst an ever increasing vegan population, making these trees a great commercial investment. The largest tree-borne fruit in the world, jackfruit can weigh up to 55 kg and grow up to three feet long. (Though, the average size of the fruit is 4 to 8 kg). The trees at maturity can produce an astonishing 200 fruits per year! On the inside, it contains many pale-yellow, plump bulbs, which are edible and joined at the core. The seeds can also be cooked, eaten on their own, or ground into flour. They are high in protein, potassium, calcium, and iron. First nations people called the Bunya PIne; The bunya, bonye, bunyi or bunya-bunya, in various languages, it was then named the Bunya Pine by Europeans. However, Araucaria bidwillii is not a pine tree (of the genus Pinus). It belongs to the same genus as the monkey puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana)[citation needed] and is sometimes referred to as the "false monkey puzzle tree". The Bunya is a huge tree growing up to 45 metres high, and the cones, which contain the edible kernels, are the size of soccer balls.
