19.01.2022 U3A Knox - they're a staple of our community. 100% community run, with an enormous heart and welcoming spirit to match. That's why I was so pleased to take a to...ur of their facility down at Fair Park recently and to catch up with their President, Lawrie, and his deputy, David, to chat about the work they do. I also got the chance to meet a few of their learners and volunteers. U3A's do such great work in communities right around Victoria, and I'm so pleased with everything Lawrie, David and the team are doing in our neck of the woods! If you'd like to volunteer or take a course, you can visit their website: www.u3aknox.org.au

18.01.2022 Art therapy with Teresa Schipano U3A Knox art tutor Teresa Schipano was approached by a U3A member whose granddaughter provides services for Tobin Brothers. She asked if Teresa would be willing to create an art video to help people through the challenging times of grief. Teresa has since made three videos, with another scheduled for August. The premise is that being creative can help many people stay positive and discover enjoyment in creating art. Of course, Teresas videos ...are not just for the grief stricken but for anyone interested in art. She offers valuable art tips to help your creative process. So pick up your paintbrush or pencil and join Teresa and Oscar her dog in her first three videos: Teresa draws a bird - https://www.facebook.com/TobinBrothersFunerals/videos/243997756877155/ Teresa paints a lunar eclipse - https://www.facebook.com/TobinBrothersFunerals/videos/2748008628770998/ This one is of Autumn leaves - https://www.facebook.com/TobinBrothersFunerals/videos/281747429890825/ Teresas fourth and final video is coming soon, so watch out for it on the Tobin Brothers Facebook site.

18.01.2022 To whom it may concern, I am writing this email regards on donating cloth mask. HONG KONG MASKS AUSTRALIA is created by a group of Hongkonger all around in Australia from FACEBOOK. We aim to promote the use of fabric mask and teach peopleto sew their own. Besides, the group of volunteer also been giving this Homemade mask away to locals who requires for it. ... CDC announced to advise public cover their mouth and nose while going out, in order to reduce the chance on spreading virus in the community. And we know that COVID-19 would be a deadly disease to Seniors. Although we all try to stay as home all the time, sometime we still need to go.out for essential. However, Australia are now facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic as the virus spreads rapidly around the world. Due to the rapid and unexpected spread , the world is facing a global shortage of medical supplies, especially with surgical masks. While we believe we should reserve surgical masks for the health care workers and those who are in desperate need of them! we would happy to give away some Homemade Cloth mask to the community in order to prevent the spreading of the virus , give them extra protection wear while they might still need to shop for food and reserve the surgical mask/ N95 for the very frontline workers. I'm wondering if you would like to share the give away information to then senior or even help us to distribute to the elderlies who cant sew. If you have any questions about this Masks , please feel free to inbox me. I'm looking forward to hear from you soon. Thank you for your kind attentions your faithfully, Cheryl Tam https://www.facebook.com/HKMasksAustralia/ 5.0 Hong Kong Masks Australia Community group Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Visit Facebook Page

17.01.2022 Due to the ongoing Corona virus situation all Normal classes for term 2 are cancelled. Hopefully, we can resume in Term 3, which is scheduled to commence on July 13. In the meantime, some classes are continuing to run in a modified format via video technology. The feedback from tutors has been positive so far.... There are several free video meeting programs, including MS Teams(free), Skype, and Zoom. Most of our tutors who are running modified classes currently are using a free version of Zoom. It is relatively easy to use, although like some software programs, it does have security vulnerabilities (some of the known problems have been sorted in recent software updates). Most of the above free video meeting programs can be used on computers, laptops and tablets. It is great to share conversation and see the friendly faces from your class whilst you continue with your studies. For Telstra and Optus internet clients, these companies are allowing unlimited download of data until the end of April. As well as continuing classes, some new video classes will eventuate, including some on how to uses the above communication programs. You will be advised of this via email, our website and Newsletter. It is important to stay in touch with each other in this time of isolation, so please let us know anything that your class is doing; just a few lines is enough. You can post it on the U3A Knox Facebook page, our moderator will look at everything and post it for all to see. Otherwise, email your article to our Newsletter editor [email protected], or send it to me [email protected] Please keep checking our website www.u3aknox.org.au and Facebook page for any newsy updates.
16.01.2022 Is There a Pebble in Your Shoe? Most people have a story they want to tell. Is it sitting inside, fermenting every day? Is it just crying out for the opportunity to come out and reveal itself to the... world? There is an interesting new course that gives you the audience you have always wanted, and the opportunity to tell the world what you have been itching to tell everybody. Not only that, it gives the audience the chance to argue with you. In our latest newsletter you will find information on this wonderfully interesting new course. https://www.u3aknox.org.au/newsletters/ So if you have a story to tell, contact Morris Sabanski at [email protected]. We can talk about your topic and schedule a slot for you.

15.01.2022 Once again, our State Government has ordered that we minimise our outside activities and stay at home whenever possible. In view of the huge rise in numbers of people contracting the dreaded CORONA 19 virus, I doubt if any one of us would argue against that. Indoor classes for Term 3 have therefore been put on hold. On our website you will find an Update for classes in Term 3. https://www.u3aknox.org.au/update-for-classes-in-term-3/

10.01.2022 Teaching Indian vegetarian cooking online via Zoom was a novel experience for all of us involved, including me. Emailing a list of ingredients in advance on Fri...day nights to prepare for cooking on the following Tuesdays (from 11am to 12.30) was a challenge in itself. Giving a list of ingredients for three recipes for each session was not enough. Adding names and locations of shops nearby to buy some required spices had to be taken care of at the same time. At times, names of spices and flours in Indian terms, alongwith a photo of some unfamiliar veggies was a must! By Monday night, taping a video of each recipe in action was the hubbys chore, which he did with devotion so special thanks to Vinay.(Dr. Vinay G. Kane) Now, refer to the copied and pasted worthwile feedbacks from the participants below, with my heartfelt thanks! ***************************************** Thank you Lini for the delicious recipes we have enjoyed over the past 5 sessions. I have always loved Indian food but now feel confident in making my own chapati, raita, and many different curries. I have learned to use quite different spices and seeds. I also love the Indian rice we used and found the pilau very flavoursome and have created other dishes using this rice and recipes on the packet. This was a fantastic course to do on zoom and Lini put in a huge amount of work in creating videos to show techniques and in developing comprehensive ingredient lists. I look forward to doing another course, hopefully in person later in the year. Thanks again Lini Jenny Crynes ************************************* Hi Lini, Id like to thank you very much for the obvious large amount of work you put into this course for us. I really appreciated the well set out and colourful list of ingredients before each lesson. The videos were great too. I have really enjoyed cooking this Indian vegetarian food. My husband and I always looked forward to each Tuesday, me for the cooking challenge and both of us for the eating. Up until recently, we were not fans of Indian cuisine, but this course has given us a new and wonderful understanding of Indian food, one which we have greatly enjoyed. Its been a highlight of our week, in these isolation days of the COVID 19 crisis. So thank you again very much for increasing our repertoire of food and teaching us new cooking methods, foods and flavours. It was an extra challenge making the dishes gluten free but the last weeks paratha was absolutely delicious, so it gave me heart to know that I can do them this way and that theyre still really tasty. I would dearly love to do more cooking with you and learn some more. Stay safe and well, Kind regards, Trudi ************************************** Lini, thank you very much for the lessons. Learned a great deal especially how to make yummy curries without using curry powder. Linda Lampa ***************************************** Thank you very much for all these sessions.Been interesting and yummy. Looking forward to next term . Tracey **************************************** So, Come one, come all! Keep track of the next sessions, In our newsletter, after all! Regards, Lini Manalini Vinay Kane

08.01.2022 The saying A picture speaks a thousand words rings true for many people. However, it may surprise you to learn that art can be an effective tool in mental... well-being. As an expressive medium, art can be used to help you overcome stress, explore different aspects of your personality and express your emotions, which all foster healing and mental wellness. Whether you are finding new activities to do from home, or find yourself stuck in a rut, immerse yourself in the process of self-expression with an artistic project of any kind. This year, our Art For The Heart annual exhibit has had to adapt to the circumstances and we would like to meet you in your own home instead. So grab whatever medium speaks to you and join Teresa Schipano as she explores expression through art as an extension of our Art For The Heart initiative.
