During disasters, many Aus...tralians enjoy donating goods as they feel more confident that their donation will benefit a needy person rather than being consumed in 'on-costs'. The problem is that goods need to be transported, warehoused and managed, diverting important resources from the relief effort. Donated goods also negatively impact on local businesses that could otherwise supply those same goods - and they are struggling as well. Cash is generally best and, of course, the community can be confident that any donation of cash to Lions will be well-managed and 100% of it will reach affected communities.
