23.01.2022 The Rocks Laneway in Geraldton received a Landscape Architecture Award at the @aila_national awards ceremony last night. From the Jury: The Rocks Laneway transforms Geraldton with its ephemeral sense of place. It performs its primary function of connection between the foreshore and the key attractions of the city and then goes on to play in the space of past memory and future potential: light and shade; inside and outside; building and non-building. Overall, the project is ...a valuable incision in the city centre delivered with a high level of competence and imagination, as well as a commitment to public consultation. It is a meaningful and engaging urban space. With thanks and congratulations to the whole project team @cityofgreatergeraldton @trcb_architects @traxbema @arupgroup @engineeringtechconsultants and Geraldton Building Services and Cabinets. . . . 11.01.2022 https://www.watoday.com.au//noongar-trail-heritage-plazas- The Subi East project is now open for comment. See link for some more detail on what is proposed and check out the DevelopmentWA website to have your say. The Subi East project will see the rejuvenation of 35.6ha of land to create an exciting new north-eastern gateway of Subiaco - one that respects and reflects the rich heritage of the area whilst realising the importance of its prominent location right on the edge of Perth’s CBD. Looking forward to continuing our work on this with the awesome project team Oculus, Karda Designs, Apparatus and DevelopmentWA.

03.01.2022 The UWA Cultural Heritage Mapping project received a Landscape Architecture Award at the @aila_national awards ceremony on Tuesday night. The process for this project truly was a collaborative one and we recognise and thank all of those involved: Artists: Barbara Bynder (Karda Designs), Shane Yondee Hansen and Facilitating Artist: Kim Mahood Nyoongar Elders and Leaders: Doolann Eatts, Margaret Culbong, Vivienne Hansen, Morten Hansen, Farley Garlett, Noel Nannup, Sandra Harb...en, Richard Walley, Herbert Bropho, Michael Ogilvie Photography and Videography: Jason Thomas Facilitation: UDLA and Brave & Curious Client: UWA Campus Planning From the Jury: This is an important piece of work that not only reveals and maps the cultural heritage of the University of Western Australia’s Crawley campus but also provides a framework for future campus development based on redefining our preconceptions and our Western approach to seeing the landscape. The depth of thinking, the approach to consultation, engagement and collaboration, and the leadership demonstrated by the landscape architects impressed the jury. The cross-cultural living spatial knowledge that was revealed was guided and directed by Whadjuk Noongar Elders and leaders, in recognition of the importance of first asking Traditional Custodians, who have the authority and respect to speak for Country. The resultant mapping is beautifully presented through a richly layered artwork representing the shared knowledge and stories of the Crawley area. The University of Western Australia should also be commended for its vision of a place of learning on Country. 01.01.2022 Get your Acca Dacca fix down at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour this Sunday for a free concert at the newly renovated Bon Scott stage. UDLA loved contributing to this part of Freo history with the design of the public realm upgrades.
