18.01.2022 THANK YOU ONE AND ALL To everyone who told me I didn’t have the brains to be a veterinarian .. I thank you immensely.
17.01.2022 HORSE DENTISTRY VISIT TO MARYBOROUGH . TOMORROW Please note that one of my original (two) assistants will be returning to the Maryborough region again tomorrow to treat a horse with serious dental issues. To make the return trip from Bendigo viable, Russell is seeking an additional 5 or 6 horses that are due for dental treatment.... Could anyone wishing to make an appointment please PM me prior to 8:30pm this evening . with the number of horses requiring treatment .. the address at which they are located and your mobile number (for Russ to call you back this evening). Best wishes, Peter Lane.

13.01.2022 TWO STABLES AND A PADDOCK REQUIRED IN ST ARNAUD On behalf of a horse dentistry of mine who is moving to St Arnaud, does anyone know of available stables and sole-use of a paddock for 2 horses in the St Arnaud region ? I can personally vouch for this self-employed professional person, and any assistance or advice in this regard would be extremely appreciated. ... Thanks in advance for any feedback .. ideally by Private Messaging . or by contacting myself on 0414 259996. Cheers, Peter Lane.
09.01.2022 Some folks look at me strange when I say I'm a horse dentist. Weird.
09.01.2022 POGO . THE LOVABLE REPTILE This morning I treated a 4yo off-the-track Thoroughbred, Pogo, for a new client, Shannon H. Granted he only raced the once ( having similar athletic ability to myself, I’d suggest), but much like a lot of thoroughbreds . regardless of whether they have raced or not Pogo belies their hot-wired reputation . is the perfect gentleman . and sure lives up to his newly-acquired moniker of pleasure horse.... The interesting part of all this is Pogo’s eyes . both of which are hooded and often referred to as snake eyes and often associated (rightly or wrongly) with an ornery beast of a horse. In this guy’s case, however, his reptilian glare conceals a heart of gold and the temperament of a chilled-out kid’s pony. Yep, Pogo is living proof that looks can be deceiving in which case, I may not be a blithering idiot after all.
08.01.2022 BUSH HORSE DENTISTRY Had an emergency visit by a yearling filly, Snickers, at home this morning, together with a travelling paddock mate, Ruby. Snickers, a beautiful Palomino with the kindest of natures, had thick grass-tainted drool dripping from her mouth a mighty foul breath and was in a fair degree of discomfort. ... Though her teeth were quite sharp, the source of her distress was a foreign object lodged between her gumline and two abutting lower molars. The offending object by virtue of its tricky location and its stubbornness to budge . required a specialist instrument to facilitate its extraction . so I channelled my inner MacGyver to fashion the perfect forcep a pair of pliers with a handheld S-file (flat steel with industrial diamond grit bonded along its extremities) taped to each of the plier grips. The modified longer forcep handles and its generous grabbing surfaces worked a treat allowing me to reach the object without placing my hand within the restricted confines of Snicker’s young mouth and to firmly clasp the thin strap-like object and apply enough force to extract it. The offending item shown just beyond the business end of the MacGyver forcep in one pic . and close up in the other .. was a portion of a durable plastic cable-tie, complete with the tell-tale notching on one side of the narrow (approx 6mm wide) strap. In light of both the durability of this strapping, and the incredibly firm manner in which it was imbedded . if Snickers was in the wild (rather than the caring hands of her owner, Jaydine Boysen) this particular oral horror would have afflicted her for years. By comparison, treating the teeth of her travelling companion, Ruby, was a deadset walk in the park. Thankfully.
08.01.2022 THE LIFE OF BWIAN (A regurgitated post from 7 years ago) Yesterday, I met Brian . a 4yo alpaca . who lives in Welshmans Reef.... Luckily, we were introduced by his owner, Cindy, as Brian had difficulty in enunciating his words due to his inverted-Freddie-Mercury dentition. Had he introduced himself, I would’ve forever known him as Bwian which would’ve been a weal twagedy . wesulting fwom his twubble in pwopelly pwonouncing his arse . due to his woefully ova-gwone teef. Phew. You see .. alpacas, like sheep, llamas and camels, only have lower incisors, which occlude against a gum covered bony plate of their upper jaw . and Bwian’s were tilted forward and had elongated due to lack of wear. Luckily, it was merely a matter of trimming back his incisors to bring them into contact with the opposing gum plate and thereby allow him to graze properly. Mind you, he wasn’t exactly starving to death, as Cindy and her daughter, Jasmine, had been feeding him highly nutritional pellets. Though it will not be immediate, Bwian should gradually regain his ability to pronounce his arse . opening up a wealth of opportunities as a public bleater on behalf of similarly afflicted alpacas. We and alpaca lovers everywhere wish you the best, Bwian . er BRIAN !!!!!
02.01.2022 REIKI HORSE DENTISTRY After 33 years of manual equine dentistry, the sustained to-ing and fro-ing of filing horses’ teeth ( with rasps attached to long shafted tools) has certainly taken its toll. To alleviate my RSI and bursitis, I occasionally opt for the Reiki method . whereby I don’t even require the oral speculum (gag) to keep their mouth open nor any tools or rasps whatsoever. ... Yep . it’s only a matter of positioning myself at a safe distance from the horse (. though I do maintain visual contact, even if sitting in my car) .. and caressing the air in the appropriate manner to sweep away the sharp enamel points on their molar edges. Over the hotter months, I modify my airborne procedure to simultaneously brush away the blowies . which is a win-win situation for both man and beast. A dedicated professional, I am committed to honing my craft with such cutting-edge technology. That in mind, does anybody know where I can buy some super-sized healing crystals that will cling to horse hair ?
