25.01.2022 Ultimate Bowls Week - Team Preview Last week we provided a team preview on the Streaky Bay Sharks and The Point (Taren Point Bowling Club). Both, the Sharks and The Point were two of the more impressive teams in 2019 and this is likely to continue in 2020. The two teams are stacked with International players and will be a force at the Ultimate Bowls Week in December.... Today, we provide team previews of the champions of 2019 The Dandenong Club and winners of event three Port Melbourne Borough Boyz. DANDENONG CLUB The Dandenong Club were simply sensational in the inaugural UBC season. They got off to a great start with a victory in the first ever UBC event at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club. Gary Kelly played the "shot of the tournament" to get his team the win over Warilla with the last bowl of the match in the incredible quarter final clash. Kelly continued his brilliant form through the year, and he received excellent support from Australian Jackaroo Barrie Lester and Aussie legend Wayne Turley. Both Lester and Turley combined superbly laying the perfect platform for Kelly. Winners of the Ultimate Team for 2019, and will go close again in 2020. Prediction: Hard to see this powerful trio not featuring heavily in finals in 2020. Kelly loves the carpet surfaces and with the strong form of both Lester and Turley, were expecting The Dandenong Club to win at least one event in 2020. PORT MELBOURNE BOROUGH BOYZ The Port Melbourne Borough Boyz were terrific in the final event of the year, earning them the chance to play Exodas in the final. The team from Port Melbourne went into the final as underdogs but came away as champions after the complete team performance in the biggest match of their careers. Exciting young star Nathan Wilson was brilliant during the whole event, but his performance in the final had to be seen to be believed. Together with Brett Spurr and Johnny McCarron, the Borough Boyz got better in each event and will head into the Ultimate Bowls Week full of confidence. Prediction: A lot depends on Nathan Wilson, he only has to repeat his form from the final event of 2019 again to ensure the Port Melbourne Borough Boyz will be one of the teams to beat in 2020. Next week we preview the Flemington Kensington Colts and the Bowls Asia Tigers

After such a challenging time, we are looking forward to putting some smiles back on the faces of bowls lovers from across the world, but particularly those in Melbourne." 17.01.2022 Ultimate Bowls Week - Team Preview Last week we provided team previews on The Dandenong Club and Port Melbourne Borough Boyz. Two of the star performers of the inaugural Ultimate Bowls Championship season, winning the first and third events respectively. Many believe both teams will feature prominently again in 2020. ... Today, we provide team previews on two of the newcomers into the Ultimate Bowls Championship, the Flemington Kensington Colts and the Asia Tigers. FLEM KEN COLTS A new team into the Ultimate Bowls Championship, the Flemington Kensington Colts is owned by Jason Kuiti and Mark Russell. Together, they have out together an outstanding team of talented players from Victoria. All three stars have been long serving Victorian representatives, they are compatible, and will no doubt be a team that will cause plenty of worries to some of the highly fancied teams. Brett Foley, Russell Green and Ben Loughlin can all play in any position, which gives them the flexibility to adapt to different game styles against various opposition. The Colts will be strongly supported by the local Melbourne fan base and will be sure to give their supporters plenty to cheer about. Prediction: The Colts will be a team that will go under the radar, their players are hard working and will do what it takes to get the job done. Look for the former Aussie Rep Russell Green Jnr to set the competition alight, hes a player that is a machine once hes in the groove. If this happens, finals are on the cards. ASIA TIGERS The Asia Tigers are one of the most exciting teams to come into the Ultimate Bowls Championship for 2020. Mr Ye has selected three of the best Malaysian players in Siti Zalina Ahmad, Emma Firyana Saroji and Fairul Izwan. Siti Zalina Ahmad, the multiple Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, sits alongside Jo Edwards and Karen Murphy as some of the greatest female players of all time, her record speaks for itself and we cant wait to see her in action in the UBC. Unfortunately, the current covid-19 crisis means that the teams involvement in the UBC is in jeopardy due to travel restrictions. Team Owner Mr Ye will find replacement players for the team if the Malaysian players are not able to travel in 2020. Prediction: Difficult to say due to the uncertainty, however one thing is for sure if the team can travel into Australia then they have the talent and international experience to go all the way. Malaysia are a powerhouse country in the bowls world and we have three of their best in the UBC. Finals Next week we preview the teams of Warilla Gorillas and the Wellington Hornets.

He's been a stalwart of the Vics for many years, and he's a player that was always difficult to beat. We all know he has a powerful drive, but his all-round game is up there with some of the best. To add to that, he's a fantastic team person as well."... KK's verdict - Big presence, always tough to beat.

15.01.2022 MORE UBC EVENTS IN 2022 In a decision that will delight UBC team owners, players and bowls fan from all parts of the world, there will be a 4th Ultimate Bowls Championship event introduced for the 2022 season. The four individual events will be combined into two action-packed weeks of entertaining bowls, making it more cost effective for team owners as well as helping players with a very busy calendar in the years ahead. ... UBC CEO Mark Casey confirmed this decision this morning "This has been discussed for several months, we wanted to make a big effort to make owning a team in the UBC even more attractive, so giving them an extra opportunity to win prizemoney while gaining more media exposure will definitely be a big plus. In 2022, teams will be playing off for $250,000 in each week of the UBC. This is huge money for our sport and I know the players can't wait to get into it." In another announcement Casey confirmed that The Dandenong Club will be welcomed as a 4th host venue for the Ultimate Bowls Championship. They join the three existing hosts in the Deer Park Club, Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club and the Moama Bowling Club. The UBC is delighted to have four of the best bowling venues in the world to host the events.

15.01.2022 Ultimate Bowls Week - Team Preview Last week, we provided a team preview of the Flem Ken Colts and the Asia Tigers. The Colts are new to the UBC, however have secured three experienced Victorian stars who will cause some upsets throughout the Ultimate Bowls Week. ... The Asia Tigers are also new to our events, are represented by three of the best Malaysian players of all time. If travel restrictions allow them to participate look for this team to cause plenty of headaches. Today, we preview two of the strongest teams in the Ultimate Bowls Championship in the Warilla Gorillas and NZs Wellington Hornets. WARILLA GORILLAS Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club is one of the powerhouse clubs of Australian bowls, their facilities are second to none, they have a very proud history and their list of International players is endless. Their 2019 UBC season was very good, without going all the way. Led by in-form Australian Jackaroo Aaron Teys who was sensational during the 2019 events, many bowls experts are predicting the Gorillas to start short priced favourites in all three events of 2020. Teys brilliant combination with World Champion Jeremy Henry will take them a long way, however the addition of young gun Corey Wedlock could be the x-factor they need to secure their first win in the UBC. Prediction: Will be the hard to beat with three brilliant players. If they can find their best and most successful combination early then the Gorillas will be enjoying success at Deer Park. WELLINGTON HORNETS The Wellington Hornets were one of the standouts at the first UBC event of 2019, only losing one match in their section and just falling in the semi-final to event winners The Dandenong Club. They werent able to replicate that performance in the following two events, however we know they have class on their side and will come back hard in 2020. Aussie star David Ferguson and New Zealand great Gary Lawson will spearhead the Hornets campaign in 2020. The man who could make all the difference is the ever-consistent drawing machine Mike Kernaghan. Kernaghan, has been part of the New Zealand team for a long period of time, is a player who is no-fuss and will be suited to the UBC scoring system. Prediction: Believe the Hornets will come hard early in the 2020 events, I know they were disappointed with the way their 2019 season ended and with the inclusion of Kernaghan, this team has what it takes to go all the way. Would be a surprise if they didnt make at least two finals series.

13.01.2022 NSW UBC Teams preview for 2021 Engadine Cougars Players: Mason Lewis, Craig Donaldson, Daniel Scanlan.... The Engadine Cougars are the recent newcomers into the Ultimate Bowls Championship. The powerhouse Sydney club has a rich history of achievements and will be a force in the UBC in 2021. Young gun Mason Lewis heads their campaign in the first Ultimate Bowls Week, with inform front end player Craig Donaldson and the talented Daniel Scanlan forming a very competitive team. One thing is for sure, the match between Engadine and The Point is a must see, local arch rivals going head to head will be a beauty. Finals is a possibility, particularly towards the end week of the week as they experience the unique UBC format of play. Sapphire Coast Dolphins Players: Michael Wilks, Jay Breust, Ben Hubber. The Sapphire Coast Dolphins are looking forward to their first year in the UBC. Former Australian representative and bowls legend Michael Wilks joins the talented duo of NSW's Jay Breust and Victorian Ben Hubber. Wilks has an incredible bowls brain and will no doubt have the required plans ready to put in place. This team is compatible, extremely flexible and ready to go. May fly under the radar at times, and playing finals should be achievable. The Point Players: David Axon, Ali Forsyth, Mike Nagy. One of the standout teams in the inaugural year of UBC, with New Zealand star player Ali Forsyth showing his class. The "welsh wizard" David Axon was also outstanding and will be looking to repeat that performance in the 2021 season. Former Kiwi International Mike Nagy is back at The Point and will be a leading force. A very strong outfit yet again. The Point should be playing in all finals, and another victory is a big chance. Warilla Gorillas Players: Aaron Teys, Corey Wedlock, Jeremy Henry. The Warilla trio of Teys, Wedlock and Henry is as strong as it gets. Three brilliant players who know each other’s style of play and they know what it takes. After not getting an event victory in 2021, there will be some hunger there and they will be looking to bring success to their 2021 UBC campaign. The young superstars Teys and Wedlock are two of Australia's best and add in the experience and class of the Irish champ Henry, they are $1.01 to make it through to all finals. We're expecting the Gorillas to win at least one event on their home carpet in August. Next week we head across the ditch and provide an insight into our New Zealand friends, the South Island Storm and the Wellington Hornets.

13.01.2022 Ultimate Bowls Week - Team Preview This week we provide an insight to another three UBC teams in the North Qld Oz E COOL ROOS, Bowls Asia Tigers and Bowls Asia Eagles. NORTH QUEENSLAND ROOS... The powerful North Queensland Roos will be once again led by New Zealand World Champion Shannon Mcilroy. Mcilroy is one of the most exciting players to watch, and he will be looking to lift the bar in the Ultimate Bowls Week. Many say, the Roos were one of the teams that underperformed in 2019, and Mcilroy, together with fellow World Champion Brett Wilkie will be out to impress. Team owner and all round good guy Damien Mcgee provided excellent support in 2019 and will be needed again if its the Roos turn for success at the Ultimate Bowls Week. Prediction Definitely will be playing in some finals matches, the question is how many. The new rule of Top 6 in the section goes through to the knockout rounds helps. If they are finish in the Top 6, then look out. They have the talent to go all the way. BOWLS ASIA DRAGONS The Bowls Asia Dragons have welcomed one of the stars of Hong Kong bowls in Chan Ken Che Ken. Chan is a young, exciting player who has had many years experience representing his country on the International scene. Lui Quoqiang and Yuanying Liu will be the final two players forming the Dragons outfit for the Ultimate Bowls Week. Prediction The Dragons will be up against it against some of the strong combinations in the UBC, however the inclusion of Chan will give them a huge boost. BOWLS ASIA EAGLES The Bowls Asia Eagles enjoyed a fantastic year in 2019, with the highlight being a quarter finalist in the first event of the year. The Eagles will be led by Chinese legend and team owner Ye Suiying, and they have secured two of the best female players from Hong Kong in Vivian Yip and Dorothy Yu. Yip was in fine form in 2019 and she will be looking to continue that during the Ultimate Bowls Week. Yu, will be in the UBC for the time but look for this talented player to shine. Prediction On paper the Eagles are the stronger of the two Bowls Asia teams, and after securing both Yip and Yu in the draft, the Eagles will be a team that will cause plenty of upsets. Vivian Yips attacking style of play suits the UBC format.

12.01.2022 We would like to pass on our thoughts and best wishes to all Victorians in this time of need, particularly our incredible Victorian team owners and players. There are going to be some challenges over the next 6 weeks, but please know you are playing an important role of getting the whole country back on their feet. Lets get through this together. ... We are confident the current restrictions will allow the Ultimate Bowls Week to be held at the Deer Park Club in December. #alwayshere #ubcfriends #ubcfamily

"To be able to say we will be paying out 1 million dollars in prizemoney across the two weeks is quite unbelievable, and something our sport can really promote." "Each week will include three full events, its going to be incredible. After such a challenging time, we are looking forward to putting some smiles back on the faces of bowls lovers from across the world, but particularly those in Melbourne." Casey confirmed "The decision to host the first week of events in August was due to the uncertainty of when travel restrictions will begin to ease. As we have some many International teams and players involved with the UBC, it was important we gave ourselves as long as possible so hopefully our International friends are able to travel." 10.01.2022 New Zealand UBC Teams preview for 2021 South Island Storm Players: Andrew Kelly, Richard Collett, Bronwyn Stevens.... The South Island Storm head into the 2021 UBC year with confidence after a very successful final event at the Moama Bowling Club. New Zealand International Andrew Kelly will be their player to spearhead the Storm's campaign after being selected with the 3rd pick overall in the UBC Draft. Star New Zealand players Richard Collett and Bronwyn Stevens were selected with picks 31 and 35 respectively. Collett will bring a wealth of experience, and we saw how well Stevens adapted to the UBC concept and she will be one of the players to watch. Will be competitive in all events, and a forward showing in finals is highly likely. Wellington Hornets Players: David Ferguson, Gary Lawson, Mike Kernaghan The Wellington Hornets are one of the most interesting teams in the Ultimate Bowls Championship. They were arguably the most impressive team in the first event of year only just falling short in the semi-final against event winners, The Dandenong Club. Unfortunately, things changed and the results fall away after that but many expect the Hornets to hit back hard in the 2021 season. Australian gun David Ferguson was their pre-selected player, with one of New Zealand's all-time greats in Gary Lawson selected with pick 10. Look for Lawson to set the tone and put in a big performance in the first lot of events at Warilla. One of the steals in the draft would have to be their 3rd player, New Zealand International Mike Kernaghan with pick 32 from the draft. 08.01.2022 ENGADINE COUGARS JOIN THE UBC It’s been confirmed the Engadine Bowling Club will be entering the Ultimate Bowls Championship for the next three years. The team, known as the Engadine Cougars, will be required to select three players from the 2020 UBC Draft list to compete in the next round of UBC in August next year due to their late entry into the competition. ... UBC CEO Mark Casey had this to say earlier today I think to say we are excited by the confirmation that Engadine will be entering the UBC is an understatement. Discussions have been ongoing for a while, but to be able to welcome a new team into the UBC during these tough, challenging times we are in gives us an enormous amount of confidence that we will be back better than ever in 2021. With the uncertainty of whether some of our international teams will be able to travel in August next year, having the Engadine Cougars come in is a huge boost for the competition, and we look forward to working with them for many years to come. Casey added. Engadine’s star player David Ferguson will not be able to don the Cougars’ colours in the first UBC events in 2021 as he has committed to New Zealand’s Wellington Hornets, however, it’s likely he will become one of the pre-selected players in the December events. The champion player was clearly thrilled with the news this morning Engadine Cougars are very excited to enter the UBC for the next 3 years and we would like to thank Mark and the UBC team for working with us to make this possible. Engadine has a proud history of supporting Bowls and continually strive to be one of the elite Bowling Clubs in Australia. 2019 was an incredible year for our Club, winning the NSW Metropolitan Club of the year thanks to the efforts of all our members. Following on from this we believe the timing is prefect to enter such a high-profile, fantastic event. "Engadine are also excited to have one our own Cougars spearheading the team - NSW & Australian Emerging Jackaroo representative Mason Lewis. Mason has been one of our stars over the last 3 years and we can’t wait to see what he and his fellow Cougars can do in event one.

04.01.2022 FURTHER RESTRICTIONS PLACED ON VICTORIA This afternoon Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed that people in the Melbourne Metropolitan area will be going into lockdown for the next six weeks. Understandably, this has put our Ultimate Bowls Week in jeopardy, however, we can confirm that we have been in communication with the host venue about the situation, and together we will continue to review the matter as further information comes to hand. ... There are also other alternatives that we are working through, so you can be assured that we are planning for the Ultimate Bowls Week to be staged in December this year. In a positive light, we have a significant amount of time until our official qualifying events and our main UBC event so we believe by the time our events roll around the current situation would have eased. Of course, this recent news has put serious doubt on whether our international teams and players will be able to travel to Australia in time for our December events, but again we will be keeping a close eye on the situation and hoping the situation changes in time. The UBC would like to thank all team owners, players, supporters and sponsors for their patience and on-going support, together we will get through this and we cant wait to see you all at our events as soon as possible. #staysafe #stayinside #inthistogether
