22.01.2022 ANZAC DAY WITH BILL KAINE Anzac Day is an important day of commemoration for many of us and none more so than Bill Kaine, Secretary of the Ulverstone RSL Sub Br...anch. We asked Bill what he will be doing this Anzac Day, when we cant gather to pay our respects the way we normally would. Early this Anzac Day Ill lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in memory of those who have served in the Royal Australian Regiment, stand under my National Flag at 6am to observe a minutes silence, have a rum and coffee with breakfast then probably watch Anzac Day commemorative services on TV. Somewhere along the line, I will play my Battalions (1 RAR) rendition of the Last Post and Rouse (which is accompanied by Waltzing Matilda) in remembrance of all those who have served and sacrificed and those who continue to do so. Ill be hoping that as we remember the fallen, everyone remembers to stay safe, and think of each other also at this unusual time. We will remember them this Anzac Day. We will just have to do it a little differently. #ANZACspirit #lightupthedawn

13.01.2022 CLOSURE OF INDOOR VENUES RSL TASMANIA SUB BRANCHES In the latest announcement from the Prime Minister on Sunday night, 22 March, the PM informed of a major cr...ackdown on gatherings which will see the closure of indoor venues, including pubs, clubs, sporting and religious venues from midday today, Monday 23 March in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Restaurants and cafes will only be allowed to offer takeaway services. The new measures were agreed to at National Cabinet, which includes the Prime Minister, Premiers and Chief Ministers, during a late Sunday evening meeting. Mr Morrison warned they were the first stage, and future closures would result if people continued to ignore social distancing requirements. He warned the closures could continue for six months. This effectively means that all RSL Tasmania Sub Branches holding liquor licenses - of any type, must cease trade at midday today. Their bars can not remain open after that time. This also means that any Sub Branches which operate a bistro and dining room must close their bistros and dining rooms from midday today. Venues may still offer take-away food, however. This will be decided locally in discussion with their kitchen operators. Gaming rooms must also be shut down from midday today. The PMs latest announcement doesnt not mean that trading Sub Branches must close. But their bars and bistros must. Sub Branches will continue to maintain their core business, and that is the welfare of veterans and their families. Those services will remain available. More information will be provided as it becomes available. Noeleen Lincoln OAM JP MAICD CEO, RSL Tasmania

12.01.2022 Congratulations to all . Especially Ulverstone RSL Sub Branch members Bill Kaine and Derek Ballard

12.01.2022 Today I put my arty hat on & made lanterns for my Anzac Day Dawn Service for in my driveway; have been inspired by all the clever people out there! These were m...ade using 2lt milk cartons & permanent marker pens. I will put sand in the bottom of them to weigh them down on the day, then the tea light candle to light the way! For the pictures all you need to do, if artistically challenged like myself is to get online & pick a simple picture, create your own stencil & place on the inside of the milk carton to trace, then colour in. Pick a different pic for each side if you want! See more

11.01.2022 SCAM ALERT RSL Tasmania State Branch has been made aware of a current telephone SCAM where the caller identifies themselves as the RSL and then proceed to ask... for donations to the veterans appeal. This is a total SCAM as there is no veterans appeal. Please be very wary of receiving this type of call and hang up immediately. One of the telephone numbers the SCAMMERS use is 03-8373 8613. The RSLs Poppy Appeal is currently being conducted, and it is quite clearly identified as the Poppy Appeal. Donations can be made via the website https://poppyappeal.com.au/ The RSL will never solicit donations by telephone. Please share to your Sub Branch Facebook pages and disseminate widely. Noeleen Lincoln CEO, RSL Tasmania

10.01.2022 Media Statement 13 March 2020 Statement from RSL Tasmania State President Robert Dick:... RSL Tasmania cares deeply about the welfare of our members, the veteran community and the general public. The Coronavirus pandemic is something that is of great concern to many in our community, particularly among the older generation. Over the course of today, the Commonwealths Chief Medical Officer has advised against public gatherings of more than 500 people. We are now assessing how we will progress ANZAC Day commemorations this year. ANZAC Day is an opportunity for Australians to collectively remember those who have served and sacrificed for the way of life we all enjoy. This year we may not be able to commemorate it in time-honoured fashion, but we will adapt to meet our current circumstances. Regardless of the form commemorations take, we will always remember the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of our Defence forces, past and present. Lest we forget.

10.01.2022 MEDIA STATEMENT 16 March 2020 CANCELLATION OF RSL CONDUCTED ANZAC DAY SERVICES... In light of current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) the Federal Government, having made the decision to cancel public gatherings involving 500 or more people across Australia, has had an immediate impact on the conduct of ANZAC Day services in all major centres around Tasmania. Public support for ANZAC Day may then lead to people travelling to smaller regional services, which in turn would raise the numbers in that location to an unacceptable level. Our major concern is for the safety and wellbeing of the community at large, and also for our own members, many of whom fall within the vulnerable categories. ANZAC Day and all that it means to Australians is no less important this year, however our responsibility to the Australian community as a whole must be taken very seriously. On the 15th March, the Board of RSL Tasmania unanimously made the responsible decision to cancel all RSL conducted ANZAC Day commemorative services in Tasmania. In the interests of public safety, we encourage those local Councils and other community organizations who host ANZAC Day services to follow our lead and reconsider their plans in the best interests of their own communities. It is most unfortunate that we cannot gather to commemorate the fallen this ANZAC Day, and we will always remember the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of our Defence Forces, past and present. Media contact: Robert Dick, State President, RSL Tasmania - Mob: 0448 889 848

03.01.2022 I wish to notify an important correction to an article about the Ulverstone Returned Servicemens club, published in The Mercury newspaper on Tuesday, 14 April ...2020 titled club secretarys shame. The article incorrectly reports that the club was lent money by the state RSL. This reporting is incorrect. The club was lent money by the Ulverstone RSL Sub Branch, not the State RSL. The Ulverstone RSL Sub Branch occupy offices inside the Ulverstone Returned Servicemens Club, and had a vested interest in the clubs future survival. The loan has long since been repaid. The State Branch of RSL Tasmania is asking for a correction to the article being published to that effect in the next edition of The Mercury. This is an important matter for the State RSL, as our members have been misled into believing that the State Branch loaned money to an outside organization when this is not the case.
