25.01.2022 Today, three groups had the opportunity to learn more about a unique art form: Book folding. Book-folding has been around for centuries but this modern twist on the art form has taken the group by storm! The folding of the books to create a 3D work of art is a relaxing and fun activity. It is also a great way to upcycle old or unwanted books and give them a second life. The end products are thoughtful gifts or can add a touch of funkiness to any interiors. #bookfolding #bookfoldingart #upcycle #socialgroups #agedcare #agedcareaustralia #agedcareactivities #umbrellateam

20.01.2022 Meet our award-winning client Rozalia! Rozalia arrived in Perth over three decades ago, bringing a generations-old craft from her tiny village "St Demeter" in Transylvania, a region in Romania. Rozalia's love of her craft stems from generations of handing down the ancient art of weaving corn husks into practical commodities. She has also received the distinction of being awarded first prize in the Budapest International Exhibition to utilise corn husks, plus many other pr...aises. Rozalia usually has to buy around $50 worth of corns at her local shop for her projects. As she only needs the corn husks, she gives away the corncobs to people in need and to her neighbours. Then she soaks the husks in water, and with her deft fingers she weaves torn strips into intricate designs over different moulds. She is doing this craft since she was 16 and still uses the very first crochet hook made by her father when Rozalia was ten years old. Rozalia can also colour the dyed corn husks in beautiful purple and aqua shades, although she prefers the husk's natural cream shade. The pieces are delightful, mostly practical, but some are made just for the sheer joy of creating. Delicate crochet-like doilies and placemats, wine casks, baskets, hats, vases, bags, bowls, and back supports which 'support the lower back and are ideal for the car or at home, are some of the pieces Rozalia has created. Rozalia, a Transylvania teacher, is eager to pass on the art to local home craft enthusiasts and welcomes anyone interested in learning the ancient craft. Rozalia believes it would be a fabulous craft for local people to dye the husks with natural ochre colours and target the tourist market. #craft #handmade #oldcraft #cornhusks

08.01.2022 Were watching very closely whats happening in Victoria with the ethnic communities. They were the first groups who were hit hard by the second wave. We are constantly advocating at every level to analyse what happened, so we can learn from the mistakes made. Ethnic communities are socialising differently and social isolation and inadequately translated health messages can have dire consequences.

07.01.2022 Highlighted Program of The Month Home Care Package Feedback from clients Jolanta and her team have done an exceptional job in delivering one of the most individualised and tailored home care package programs in Perth. Her team goes above and beyond the call of duty, and it is frequently shown on the feedback we are receiving from clients and family members. Here is another heartfelt email from one of our family carers. It was our pleasure to support this family on their hom...e care package journey. I am writing this email to officially tell you that [my dad] has now moved into Nursing Home as a permanent resident. His health took on a fast decline to where he needed 24 hour care that my family could no longer provide. I personally would like to thank you and all the Umbrella Staff who made the past 3 years of my fathers life joyful . He lived and looked forward to his regularly outings to Umbrellas services. Your staff gave [my dad] the best care, love and compassion. Jolanda thank you for coming to my rescue after my mum passed away and helping me sort out Dads Agedcare package and for fighting for his inhome care. You always have the clients best needs first. Robert was a dear friend to Dad always helping with his ever changing bus schedule due to Dr appointments etc.. Kassia, Kat, and many other helpful staff members when I would call with a query. Recently Esmeralda has also been helping our family with Home services and sorting out getting [my dad] work and trades people around his home. Dads cleaning lady has become part of our family , she has a beautiful personality and never shy to roll her sleeves up and get the job done, my dads house lost 20 years of dust after she arrived. Im sure there is another team of names I do not know but who made [my dads] days bright on his outings and all the fabulous meals that were prepared for him , all the great bus drivers who came to the door with a smiling face in the mornings to collect him. I have no regrets choosing Umbrella Services as Dads care provider. I will always recommend you to anyone Im speaking to about Aged Care. NOTE: Some names and identifying details have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals.
