09.01.2022 Be transported to Leru Cut in the Solomon Islands. This stunning image by Pavlos Evangelidis has won the Underwater Scenes category in the Underwater Tour Awards 2020. When I click I hope to create something beautiful that will inspire and showcase the beauty of our world. I also hope to raise awareness of some of the environmental problems we face. I believe photography has a unique power in delivering those messages. It has become the universal language and technology has... helped. This is also how I created Wantok Photography when I lived in the Solomon Islands. Wantok is a Melanesian pidgin word derived from the English one talk. In the local culture, it refers to close friendship based on a common language photography in our case. Profits from print sales on wantok.photos go to environmental conservation (with a focus on the oceans) so that it can continue to inspire us, but most importantly help conserve the habitats of so many different species, including humans. We love the Solomons and we love your Wantok work Pavlos! Bravo. Pavlos has won a prize bundle of AUD$500 cash (always useful!), an AUD$250 voucher for a stunning personal photo book prepared by Momento Pro and a Nautilus LifeLine (lets hope he wont need it). 07.01.2022 A tight contest with thousands of votes cast by friends of the Underwater Tour, the winner of the People’s Choice Award is drum roll....Pierre-Laurent Pablo! Big congrats Pierlo! 'My own challenge is to take a picture I like. I like to see the perfect angle light etc.. and say to myself I couldn't do better. Because if you missed, this moment is gone forever. Tomorrow won’t be the same conditions of visibility, position etc. The challenge is to reflect reality and give the... best chance to the animal to be well represented. In the case of my winning picture, the Frog Fish was hanging on its sponge throne like the king of the reef. Well the angle was tricky because it was between very fragile black corals and the wall. There is no way to touch or damage anything around me." All images displayed in the online gallery for the People's Choice competition passed our stringent Ethical Standards Review. Pierlo wins a bundle prize pack of a beautiful coffee table book "Underwater Australia' by Darren Jew, Liottle Urchin reef friendly sunscreen and a Whales Underwater H2O water bottle and an A2 print voucher from Living Image Fine Art Print To see more about the Awards and to check out our speakers events for May 2021, head to www.underwatertour.com.au

04.01.2022 Heres the winner of the Underwater Tour Awards Underwater Characters category - Northern Gannets fighting for fish in the Shetland Islands, UK by (Mr) Simone Caprodossi. Bravo! "Its becoming harder to produce original images as the number of good underwater photographers has grown and access to once unique marine subjects have become easier. So the challenge is finding the special moment, my personal challenge is to produce some unique images from our awesome Julian Ro...cks and I think there is a very special wobbegong shot still waiting to see the light" said Simone. We look forward to seeing that wobbegong shot Simone Caprodossi Photography Simone has won a prize bundle of AUD$500 cash (always useful!), an AUD$250 voucher for a stunning personal photo book prepared by Momento Pro and a Nautilus LifeLine (lets hope he wont need it!). 04.01.2022 Congrats to UnderwaterTour Award Guru Winner 2020, Chelsea Haebich Photography. Chelsea shared her motivation with us.. "My aim when taking images is to capture something about the animal or moment that makes people keep looking. With tiny creatures I love to capture the detail that often I cant see until Im home looking at it on my computer. This draws me back to images to keep seeing detail. I really like to capture character and humour as well. Right or wrong I find many... of the behaviours and habits of Marine creatures very comical and endearing. I love to capture character as it gives people something to relate to when they look at an image. The image of the Australian Sea Lion is an example of that. The look its giving the camera conjures up images of peoples own puppies at home. Marine life is so often seen as cold and glassy eyed. I try and capture those personalities, or at least the personalities I see! I want people to connect and find something they love in a world they could never image themselves entering. I believe people will protect and look after things they love and understand better. So I guess my aim is connection, both for myself in the moment and for others when viewing the images." WELL SAID! Chelsea has won a fabulous humpback swim adventure In Tonga kindly provided by Whales Underwater Cant wait to see her humpback pictures.
