24.01.2022 If you’ve had your first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine without developing Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) or experiencing another serious adve...rse event, then you can safely receive your second dose regardless of your age. The risk of developing the rare blood clotting condition TTS following a second dose of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca is much lower than the risk following a first dose. ATAGI does not currently recommend switching to another COVID-19 vaccine type. The AstraZeneca vaccine remains highly effective at preventing death and severe illness among people who have contracted COVID-19 and the incidence of the blood-clotting syndrome is very rare when aged over 60 years. 14.01.2022 If you are planning a visit to a residential aged care facility, ensure you meet the criteria and be mindful of the restrictions to protect vulnerable people within our community. To be permitted to visit you must: Have documentation of your flu vaccination Have no symptoms of illness... Have not travelled overseas or interstate in the last 14 days Be over 16 years old (unless providing end of life support to a resident) If you are able to visit, you can now go for a walk with your relative, as residents are able to leave the site for exercise (within 500m of the facility). Visitors providing professional services to residents, such as hairdressers, can also visit. If you are looking for a residential aged care facility for your relative, you can also visit along with the prospective resident. Visitors providing end of life support can still visit if they haven’t been able to receive their flu vaccination, but they must get vaccinated as soon as possible after their initial visit.
