All materials, PPE, professional tuition and light refreshments are provided. All you need to do is wear closed in shoes and have some idea of the colours you like. As we are using the latest technology in resin, you will need to collect your pieces after the workshop. There is a maximum of 4 per workshop. This means you get plenty of attention; and more importantly, create pieces you love. Cost of the workshop is $130pp. A non refundable deposit of $65pp is required to secure your booking. Deposits must be paid within 24 hours. If for some reason you cannot attend the scheduled workshop (after paying your deposit), I will work with you to try and organise an alternative date within 6 months. 13.01.2022 What is free hand machine embroidery? Free hand machine embroidery (also referred to as free motion embroidery or free style embroidery) is the technique of using your sewing machine to ‘draw’. The ‘ feed dogs’ on the sewing machine are lowered, along with the stitch length and tension adjusted to zero ( this may need to be different on individual sewing machines). By lowering the feed dogs you can move the fabric in any direction, thus being able to draw. The needle and thr...ead are your pencil! This technique does not use any digital software programmes or fancy stitches, generally you just use a straight stitch. Older machines ( mine are 50 years old+) are perfect for this type of embroidery. You can just use thread or you can add a painted background or work with fabric collage. the choice is yours and you are only limited by your imagination! There are some fabulous contemporary textile artists producing beautiful art pieces using their sewing machines! Let me show you how to create your own textile art with your sewing machine. In the workshop we will cover: 1. Lowering of feed dogs 2. Tension and stitch length 3. Types of threads 4. Backing fabrics 5. Composition 6. Creating depth and texture 7. Mounting and framing your art work And guess what you don’t need to be able to sew ( although understanding how a sewing machine works helps ). All you need is a sense of adventure and an open mind!
