25.01.2022 The focus of this year’s Veterans’ Health Week (October 24- November 1) is social connection, which is so important in these current times. Army veteran, Wayne Lawson knows the power of being connected with likeminded individuals and has found an avenue to keep this connection through the UniSA Invictus Pathways Program. The IPP is an interdisciplinary, student-delivered program which helps service personnel to reach personal goals in areas of wellbeing, psychosocial and community reintegration using the medium of sport and exercise.

23.01.2022 Happy Pongal! Pongal is a multi-day Hindu harvest festival, particularly in the Tamil communities in India and Sri Lanka. According to tradition, the festival marks the end of winter solstice, and the start of the sun's six-month long journey northwards when the sun enters the zodiac capricorn. The festival is named after the ceremonial "Pongal", which means "to boil, overflow" and refers to the traditional dish prepared from the new harvest of rice boiled in milk with ...jaggery (raw sugar) . To mark the festival, the pongal sweet dish is prepared, first offered to the gods and goddesses , followed sometimes with an offering to cows , and then shared by the family. Festive celebrations include decorating cows and their horns , ritual bathing and processions. Celebrate at the Adelaide Pongal Festival, 17 January at Victoria Square from 9.00am onwards. www.facebook.com/events/110713680828901/

23.01.2022 Happy Diwali! Hear from our Vice Chancellor Professor David Lloyd, and students Zorawar Basur and Ishika Sharma as they chat about Diwali. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The word 'Diwali' means 'row of lights' and during this festival, people wear their finest clothes , decorate their homes with oil lamps and candles , offer worships to Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth), light fireworks , and partake in family feasts where sweets and gifts are shared .

21.01.2022 What are your fave study tips? UniSA student Duc Vo’s number one tip is to create a separate study and chill space. Make sure your study space is separate to where you sleep and relax, so your brain doesn’t associate your bedroom as a work area, which has a huge impact on your quality of sleep. And colour is king Use colours to help you get organized and to make important content stand out. This will help you build muscle memory to remember content quicker and accurately.

11.01.2022 Meet Andy He’s studying a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) with us. Pre-COVID, he was shortlisted to become a member of the Australian Psychology Society student committee He shared his top study tips with us. Try to finish assignments early. Having time to step away from a task, then going back to it is like viewing it with new eyes!... Self-guided learning. If you have a weak point, take time to access resources to improve your skillset. I like to think of self-guided learning as staying ‘match fit’ for the main event (Uni).

03.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges that our country’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact in 1770 or 1606. The very first footprints were those belonging to First Nations peoples who have cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first... explorers, navigators, engineers, farmers, botanists, scientists, diplomats, astronomers and artists. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. They built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Their adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming they transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. Learn more naidoc.org.au This year’s NAIDOC Poster features the stunning artwork titled Shape of Land by Noongar and Saibai Islander artist Tyrown Waigana. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NAIDOC2020
