24.01.2022 The children have enjoyed participating in Kelly Sports indoors. Due to current circumstances, we can't have any visitors in the centre but virtually is just as fun! Coach Dom talked us through lots of fun activities, and the children love it. We were using our fine and gross motor skills with the activities. Also doing lots of balancing and hand eye coordination.

24.01.2022 This week the sugar gliders have been doing breathing, meditation and yoga as part of their morning routine. Educator Chris has introduced some slinkys and breathing balls to help encourage the children to control their breathing and feel more relaxed. We follow our breathing and meditation with some poses. The children took turns, waited patiently and remained focused and concentrated. Yoga's incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve children's well-being. Regular yoga practice creates clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration.

23.01.2022 Last week, children enjoyed the celebration of Halloween. The children dress up in their spooky costumes while enjoying the fun in potion or spell making with the witches. They enjoyed the process of scooping, stimulating their senses appreciating the texture of our Chia Seed slime and also our Jack O lantern pumpkin, transferring the slime from one container to the other. They also engaged creating and painting their own ghost using fly swatters painting, this fosters their creativity and imagination, while recognising shapes and patterns.

21.01.2022 Today the Sugar gliders celebrated the Indian festival of lights known as Diwali. We listened to some traditional Indian music in the morning and the children enjoyed dancing with the colourful ribbons. The room was decorated with lots of lights and the children were given the opportunity to design their own mason jar with glass paint which will be sent home this afternoon with a tea light candle for the children to share with their families. (Hopefully they are dry) Our wonderful chef Dom will make some traditional Indian coconut ladoo for the children to try for afternoon tea. During Diwali people light up their houses and shops. They worship Lord Ganesha for good welfare and prosperity and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and wisdom.

17.01.2022 This week the Dugong children have enjoyed doing different Halloween crafts. We have made some pumpkins with paint and pasting materials, we have made some ghost masks and we have made some scary spiders with hand paint.

16.01.2022 Today the Sugar Gliders asked to do some painting. The educators wanted to incorporate our group goal for this week which works at strengthening the children's fine motor skills. For this activity we used wooden pegs, cotton balls and paint colour of their choice. The children were encouraged to try to pinch the peg onto the cotton ball and to use it as a paint brush. Some of the children found it easy enough to open the peg and some struggled a little, the children asked for help if needed and created some wonderful pieces of art.

12.01.2022 As part of continued NAIDOC week celebrations the Bandicoot children have been exploring aboriginal songs and stories and extending on them in their play. They have been singing Inanay by Tiddas as they get ready for lunch or at the beginning of the day, it will become a part of our everyday program. The children have been looking at the birds and Magpies outside and listening to stories about birds such as Guluu (The Mad Magpie) and How the Birds got their Colours. ... The Bandicoot children have made birds to hang in the room by using recycled cardboard dishes, paint and feathers. They have also been painting magpies with black and white paint on paper.

09.01.2022 The children have been extending their learning about spring, the children have made a Sun catcher out of natural materials and different coloured papers. This activity allows the children to appreciate the natural materials and also exposes them to the bright colours of spring with a lots of hands on exploration. This experience is also about the process of sticking things onto the contact paper while also working on our fine motor skills and our hand eye coordination.

07.01.2022 Last week was Recycle week, and the Tree Kangaroos have been enjoying the process of making paper out of recycled newspaper. Children have been utilising their fine motor skills as they were ripping old newspapers and later on, added some water to it and let the children explore and investigate what the paper turns into. The children got even more intrigued when they mixed it with egg beaters and the paper became mushy. The children got to feel and play with the mush as they were discussing them about the process we were doing. Later on, the children laid them in a flat container and dried them with a towel, and we left them under the sun to dry more. After an overnight of drying, it turned into cardboard, and is ready for our next activity. Watch this space. We will update you more about this after we finish our next activity.

04.01.2022 Yesterday to Sugar gliders got to make their very own taste safe kinetic sand. They children showed great patience, turn taking skills, numeracy and counting skills as they added the dry ingredients to the bowl. Once the dry ingredients were added they each had a turn to mix. We then added 6 tablespoons of red water to the mixture and combined it to make a fluffy consistency and voila we were left with some fun kinetic sand that the children molded into various items and used... their fingertips to manipulate the mixture. This activity was fun and safe and initiated so much conversation between the peers. If you would like to try it at home here is the recipe: Taste safe kinetic sand: Ingredients: - 1 cup baking soda - cup sugar - cup of corn starch - 1 tbsp cream of tartar - 6 tbsp of water and food colouring - mixing bowl and spoon Method: Combine all dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well. Add some food colouring to your water. Add the water to the dry ingredients, only 1 tbsp at a time and mix it until you are happy with the consistency and then enjoy

03.01.2022 As the weather gets warmer, The children in Tree Kangaroo room have been engaging in water play activities. The children had turned our stepping stone into a paddle pool. Look how the children responded with evidence of enjoyment in their participation as they were cooling themselves in their pool. They made big and small splashes using their feet that made the other children from the other room join them in their play. We have added different resources, such as rocks, pebbles, toy animals like shark and snakes in their tub. As the children were very engaged with the activities, we adding soap to it. Children got even more excited when they have discovered and investigated various ways to make bubbles in their tub.
